The low pressure system currently with it’s centre just north of the North Island will begin to unwind and lose it’s strength, it’s associated front which will lie over most central areas of the North Island will weaken also.

Winds will tend southwest for most areas and there will still be some cloud but sunny breaks also, the odd shower may be around too south of about Auckland clearing by late afternoon however it should be dry for the most part. Temperatures will be rather nice tomorrow so it will start to feel a little more summer like.

Sunday
Rain spreading up the west coast of the South Island, and a period of rain in Southland and Otago. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands
Drizzle at times with northerlies gradually freshening. Showers on Tuesday with cooler southwesterlies.

Winds will tend southwest for most areas and there will still be some cloud but sunny breaks also, the odd shower may be around too south of about Auckland clearing by late afternoon however it should be dry for the most part. Temperatures will be rather nice tomorrow so it will start to feel a little more summer like.

The South Island see’s an increasing northwesterly airflow develop especially over Southland through to Canterbury. Weather will be sunny in the east with high cloud about Southland and Otago spreading into Canterbury during the day, expect cloudy skies about South Westland and sunny breaks the further you go into North Westland. Temperatures will be mild tomorrow in the east especially inland as right on the coast it is still likely to be fairly northeasterly while not far inland winds will tend more northerly or northwest.

Northwesterly winds will likely reach the Otago coast tomorrow however bringing mild temperatures in the high teens to low 20's range.

Sunday see’s a fairly pleasant day ahead for the North Island with westerly winds and some cloud increasing from afternoon mainly in the west. The South Island’s east coast will be nice and warm with northwesterlies, expect high cloud too. Rain and showers will work there way up the West Coast as a front from the southwest closes in. Monday sees the flow change to the southwest and it could get interesting in terms of thundery weather mainly in the South Island, perhaps about Wellington and the east coast of the North Island overnight and into Tuesday also.

A weak frontal boundary is expected to bring some rain to the western South Island tomorrow. Rain should develop during the morning hours about Fiordland and then slide up the West Coast. By noon, the rain may be as all the way into Nelson.


 
Rain could also develop about the deep south tomorrow. It’s not likely to be as long lasting or as widespread. The best chance will be from mid-morning to early afternoon.
 
The threat for heavy rain does exist for the West Coast. Government forecaster MetService has heavy rain warnings up for Fiordland starting tonight and lasting into tomorrow. They are also watching Westland and Otago Headwaters for the possibility that heavy rain will develop there during the early part of tomorrow.
 
The rest of the country is looking settled and quite mild for tomorrow. Highs should be at 20 or higher for just about everyone that gets a good dose of sunshine tomorrow.
