And here's the big game for the weekend, and we're almost half way through the pool games.

Kiwis versus Aussies,   Black Caps versus Green Baggies,   a day/nighter at Eden Park !!

The weather is looking pretty good, the forecast at this stage is "fine, partly cloudy but the odd shower possible"
New Zealand's official weather forecasts & warnings - Meteorological Service of New Zealand (MetService)

I'm thinking the toss will be crucial, with possible dew about for the second innings, and whoever bats first will possibly get the better conditions. I hope Brendon has been practising his tossing & calling, or maybe he'll ask Kane to do the honours ?    ;D

So, odd shaped cricket ground, short boundaries, it should be a run fest !!
I'm backing our bowlers to swing the game our way  ;)

Come on Kiwis . . . Bring it on.

Cheers  8)

Oh, and my pick unsurprisingly is NZ to win.

Ok - can I go the side who bats first?

Maybe not....  :)

I'll go for NZ then

All righty then . . . . The big game . . .
So, Aussie won the toss & Clarke said OK Cobber, we'll bat mate.

Before giving the rundown, I need to explain something. A big statistic for bowlers in ODI's is the 5 wicket bag. So if one bowler knocks over 5 or more batsmen, they have a Five wicket bag. Commentators have for some time called this a Five For or more accurately a "Fivefer". More recently they have introduced a new term: a Michelle !! No ?? Ok, so say "FiveFer" quickly . . . . 3 or 4 times . . . . Get it ?? :D

Ok then, enough of that, back to the important stuff.
The first over from Southee went for 15, 6 extras & 9 off the bat, then in the second Boult went for 9 with 8 off the bat. Two overs down & Aussie are 24 for no wicket. Then Southee knocked over Finch for 14 in the third. Aussie then piled on the runs despite the efforts of Vettori & Boult to stem the run flow. Vetorri then grabbed the wicket of Watson in the 13th, Aussie 80 for 2 down. By the end of over 22, Aussie were 9 down for 106, with Brad Haddin & last man Cummins at the crease. They managed to eke out a total of 151, Haddin caught in the 33rd off Anderson, & top scoring with 47. Brilliant bowling by Boult & a fantastic tight spell from Vettori.

The Black Caps in reply began with a hiss & a roar. 11 off the first over, 14 off the 2nd, & 14 off the 3rd. But our Baz (McCullum) had been hit on the arm, & was looking uncomfortable, not showing any pain, but they reckon his forearm looked like a Popeye one, NZ 39 without loss. Guptill was chipped out next over for 11, but the charge continued, NZ 50 for 1 after the 5th, with Baz on 31. He lost his wicket in the 8th, going for 50 & we were 79 for 2 down. 2 quick wickets followed with Taylor & Elliott going cheaply, 80 for 4 after the 9th. Anderson now joined Williamson & they tried to steady the ship, getting through to 130 for 4 at the end of the 19th. Surely, this one was in the bag . . . .
The Aussie bowlers had other ideas with Starc & Cummins doing some serious damage. Anderson went next over for 26, & Starc & Cummins set to work on the lower order. 3 overs later NZ were 146 for 9, with Williamson & tail ender Boult at the wicket. Boult survived a couple, & the cool headed Kane smacked a 6 to close it out. What a game huh ??

I had picked a run fest, as had most commentators, but it turned out to be a wicket fest.
( And we had two Michelle's, one to our Trent Boult, 5 for 27 off 10, & the other to Mitchell Starc, 6 for 28 off 9 )
So, a win to the Black Caps by 1 wicket.    :D
