Severe gale watch in place for Hawke's Bay:
MetService says there's a risk of severe gale force winds hitting Hawke's Bay on Thursday.

It said it expects strong and gusty westerlies to affect much of the North Island.

"Winds could rise to severe gale in Hawkes Bay south of Napier by midday Thursday, easing late Thursday evening," it said.

It said Hawke's Bay people should stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case it is necessary to upgrade this watch to a warning.

"The trough crossing the country early on Thursday is quite dynamic," said MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett. "With it comes a change to strong cool southwesterlies. To some, it will feel cold. The upside is that in many places, Thursday should be a reasonably fine day."

Yep, it was dynamic. And we recorded our highest gust this year to date, at 69.4kph....! But wait...there's more! This weekend's storm is threatening 150kph gusts - now that's downright SCARY!
