Dull overcast morning with drizzle. One tip of the rain bucket (0.2mm) so far. Temperature 10.1°. Weather set to improve later with a predicted high of 15°. Light SE wind at around 2kmh with a gust in the last half hour of 11kmh.

Damp and a bit windy today - gusted to 50km/hr (N) just after 11am but now heading south and winds are reducing.  The baro has just turned to rise after the front has come through and forced the winds to change.

O/N low was 8.4ºC light rain started around 1am with more at 11am as the front came through for a total of 1.5mm so far. Eased and the clouds have peeled back for a partly cloudy sky and more sunshine! 11.5ºC about now.

Some rain or showers for most western areas in the North Island then easing mid afternoon and gradually clearing with sunny areas developing in most places, winds will be a bit brisk from the southwest easing later. The east coast will start the day with west to northwest winds but southwesterlies will creep north in the afternoon bringing a few showers. A few showers may linger about the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne ranges till evening then clearing at night.
 
Southwesterlies easing this morning in most areas of the South Island and morning cloud breaking with sunny periods increasing. Wet weather is looking rather unlikely for most although morning showers about Buller is more possible then clearing and a few lingering showers about Southland and Otago have potential in the morning but they will clear early on.

Later in the evening a northwesterly airflow develops over the South Island so high cloud will start to increase from then in the east and rain will develop on the West Coast overnight.
 
Temperatures of 16 to 17 degrees for areas north of the Waikato and in the Bay Of Plenty today, low 20’s are likely for the east coast and about Taranaki southwards to Wellington expect high’s of 14 to 15 degrees. A 16 degree high for Nelson today and about Blenheim, 13 to 14 along the east and west coasts. 11 to 12 degrees for Southland and Central Otago. Alexandra as always may pipe up to the mid teen range in the afternoon.

Scattered showers are over much of the North Island this afternoon in a southwesterly airflow, there are a few remaining showers over upper parts of the South Island however they will clear this afternoon. Some cloud is lingering back over Canterbury from the front that moved through early this morning however it should gradually clear later this afternoon or evening.
 
The windiest weather is about the west coast from Northland down through to Taranaki with southwesterlies between 30 to 35 km/h, Westport in the South Island currently has the windiest conditions with southwesterlies at 39 km/h gusting to 52 km/h.
 
One of the only places that doesn’t require a jersey so far today is Napier on 18 degrees which is the warmest spot around the country at present. For the past 24 hours the highest rainfall has been on the West Coast of the South Island south of Hokitika with 15 to 20mm of rain falling in the ranges.
 
And just a note regarding the thunderstorm that moved over Banks Peninsula on Monday night early this week, a friend who lives there noted a lot of hail fell blocking up some gutters and there were some torrential downpours. Apparently the thunder was really loud, am gutted I missed it!
