we've had 1 day so far this month where I haven't recorded any rain.
and looking at the forecast for the coming 10 days we could go all of October with only 1 dry day.

WET! After a dry start the forecast colder SSW has kicked in and the rain is falling. (Nothing unusual about that this month) Temp is 9.0c, 2.6mm of rain so far.

Conditions: Fine at the moment, the blustery Westerly to South Westerly wind has put in another appearance this afternoon along with some pretty beefy showers, mainly clear sky but another shower/squall is building to the SW and along the kaimai Range. Temp: 11.4c Going Down, Humidty: 84%, Rain: 18.3 mm, Average Wind Speed (10 Mins): 15Km/h SW, Pressure 1003.3 hPa Rising.

Strong west to southwest winds develop across the North Island this morning gale force at times in exposed areas especially in western coastal areas, expect some morning rain easing to showers and the chance of a few sunny periods in the afternoon. Strong northwesterlies on the east coast tend more westerly around mid morning, expect high cloud and a few brief showers possible with that wind change then sunnier weather afterwards. Winds may reach gale force at times in exposed areas especially in Wairarapa and showers return there later at night.

A few morning showers in Wellington then becoming sunny with some cloud, strong northwesterlies gale force at times especially about Cook Strait. Winds tend more westerly in the evening then southerly at night with showers.

Strong northwesterlies about the upper half of the South Island gale force at times in exposed areas, sunny on the east coast with showers in the west. Some early morning rain about Marlborough clears. Winds change strong to gale southwest mid to late afternoon with showers developing in Canterbury and on the Kaikoura Coast however Marlborough remaining mostly dry as this change moves through, a few showers may develop later in the evening mainly along the coast. Showers will persist during the day for the southern half of the West Coast with strong to gale force westerly winds.

Southwesterlies freshen from morning in Southland and Otago, rain in Southland spreads into Otago in the form of showers by midday as southwesterlies strengthen. Strong west to southwest winds gale force at times in exposed areas about Southland from morning and most of Otago during the afternoon. Expect some snow to 600m from evening lowering to 500m at night.

Temperatures of 17 to 18 degrees about Northland, Auckland and Bay Of Plenty today. High teens on the east coast with low 20 temperatures possible in Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, mid teens elsewhere in the North Island. 17 to 18 degrees can be expected in Canterbury through to Nelson along the east coast before the afternoon southwest change, 13 to 14 degrees on the West Coast and 11 to 12 in Southland and Otago.

A heavy area of showers is moving through Ashburton currently and there has been a report of thunder, this area of showers is likely to move up to Christchurch within the next hour or two with a chance of thunder also but it is not guaranteed.

Places in the west from Auckland right down to Westport are experiencing strong winds from the west, Auckland has 50 km/h winds while New Plymouth and Westport has 60km/h westerlies. The east coast of the North Island has the warmest temperatures with Gisborne on 19 degrees.

Scattered showers are covering much of the North Island and a few of those showers are short and sharp with a rumble or two south of the Waikato in the west.

Conditions: Fine I think, it's pretty dark outside now so bit hard to see what is actually happening but it is not raining and it must be windy as the keys are rattling in the door of the Caravan. Temp: 10.7c Going Down, Humidty: 82%, Rain: 18.3 mm, Average Wind Speed (10 Mins): 21Km/h SW, Pressure 1003.5 hPa Rising.
