Current Conditions: Fine and cool with just a light breeze. The Moon is now sinking towards the Western Horizon, the stars are out and twinkling in an almost cloudless sky. Looks like another almost frost for the morning and maybe another Blue Dome sky day tomorrow.

Current Recordings: Temp: 5.7c Going Down, Humidty: 85%, Rain: 0.0 mm, Average Wind Speed (10 Mins): 4km/h SSW, Pressure 1017.2 hPa Falling.

Tokoroa - 11:00am

Dull and cool to start with, partly cloudy now, some bright periods, 13deg.  Wind gusting to 20km/hr NW.
O/N low of 0.6ºC but with a breeze, which kept the frost off the windows and grass.
Not a bad day coming - the sky should clear a bit more yet and rise to 18deg perhaps.

Thursday’s national forecast
« Reply #14 on: October 25, 2012, 11:36:10 PM »
Mostly sunny across the North Island today with light winds for the upper half of the island tending southeasterly in the far north, there will also be some cloud during the day in Northland. West to northwest winds across the lower North Island strong about Cook Strait and Wairarapa then easing in the evening, some cloud during the day from Taranaki through to Wellington and areas of high cloud elsewhere about the lower North Island.

Rain on the West Coast of the South Island eases to showers by midday tomorrow with southwesterly winds, showers clear in the evening with cloudy skies breaking up. Mostly sunny in Nelson with westerly winds, some cloud for a time early afternoon then clearing. High cloud in Marlborough with northwesterly winds, sunny areas developing in the afternoon with winds easing. Some cloud develops for Canterbury as a southerly breeze moves in around mid morning, sunnier areas develop in the afternoon with southerlies dying out by evening.

Showers in Southland and inland Otago with westerlies tending southwest in the morning, a few brief showers may get into coastal Otago during the morning with that southwest change however they will clear with sunny areas then increasing. Showers clear in all areas by evening and southwesterlies die out.

Temperatures in the low 20’s in Northland and on the east coast of the North Island today, high teens elsewhere however 16 to 17 degrees from Taranaki through to Wellington and about the Central North Island. High’s of 16 to 17 in Nelson and Canterbury today, 19 perhaps 20 in Marlborough. Mid teens on the West Coast and 12 to 14 in Southland and Otago respectively.

Thursday's front weakens
« Reply #15 on: October 25, 2012, 11:42:20 PM »
Winds took longer than expected yesterday to pick up and in many cases the 130kph warning wasn't necessary however the front that produced the breezy conditions has now made landfall.Parts of the Wairarapa have seen very big gusts however these appear to be in remote areas.

Wellington saw some decent blows throughout the night and the winds should ease later today as they flick to the south. This southerly is following the front but isn't overly vigorous at this point and seems to be continuing to weaken as it heads north. It appears to be struggling to give many(if any) showers along the east coast as it trudges north.

Temperatures were cool to cold again overnight across the upper north and light frosts have appeared in a few rural areas.Temperatures are up to eight degrees below normal for the time of year during the night.

These frosts in the north aren't commonplace for the end of October and in some cases growers have called in helicopters to keep the frost at bay. Hopefully tonight and tomorrow night temperatures might be up a notch or two.

Best weather today appears to be mainly over the north and east of the North Island although some other areas are dry, it's the blustery conditions they can make it fairly unpleasant.

Tomorrow is looking like cloud will again settle along western areas with some rain in the south and nor'westers are back to be a bit breezy. This pattern is now very familiar.

"It's becoming a little monotonous but Spring often brings changeable skies" says weather analyst Richard Green."Just when you think you've gone through one bout of blustery weather, another front is hot on its heels"he says.
