This Month in History

31st May 1962 - Muddy one metre waves crashed across the Rotorua lakefront road as a strong northwesterly wind whipped the lake into a frenzy. A small jetty alongside the main wharf was broken up by the wave motion. Waterlogged timber from the old wharf at Picnic Point was set adrift by the high waters. Some of the timber was over six metres in length.
