Forecast in Brief for Saturday the 7th July 2018
Severe Weather Warnings and Watches are in place for parts of southern and central New Zealand.A moist northwest flow covers the lower South Island, with a series of fronts passing over the region today (Friday), followed by a more active front on Saturday. This front, preceded by gale northwesterlies and heavy rain, is expected to move northeast over the South Island during Saturday, then become slow moving over central areas on Sunday.
A warning is in force for heavy rain about Fiordland and the ranges of southern Westland. A heavy rain warning is now in force for the Otago Headwaters, ranges of northern Westland, Canterbury Headwaters and the Tararua Range.
Note, this is a significant rainfall event for Fiordland and the south Westland Ranges, including the Otago Headwaters.
A strong wind warning is now in force for the Canterbury High Country.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts as this event is expected to extend into Sunday and further areas are likely to be added.

Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, SouthlandHigh cloud, with patchy rain south of Ashburton today. Rain spreading elsewhere for a time tomorrow, with heavy falls near the divide. Northwest gales in places for a time.
