Forecast in Brief for Sunday the 8th July 2018
Severe Weather Warnings and Watches are in force for much of New Zealand.An active front is forecast to move eastwards across New Zealand during Sunday, preceded by a period of heavy rain and gale north to northwesterlies for many places, then followed by a strong and unsettled westerly flow into Monday.
Heavy Rain Warnings are in force for Westland, Buller, Nelson and the north and west of Marlborough, also for the Tararua Range and Mount Taranaki.
In addition, Severe Gale Warnings are in force during Sunday for the Canterbury High Country, inland Marlborough and the Sounds, Wellington, southern Wairarapa, also Taranaki, Whanganui and Taihape.
Northland to the Kapiti Coast, including Bay of Plenty and the central high countryCloudy periods with patchy rain in the south. Rain with heavy falls spreading north and east tonight and into tomorrow, with northwest gales at times.
Gisborne and Hawkes BayHigh cloud. Scattered rain and northerly gales later tomorrow.
Wairarapa and WellingtonPatchy rain, more persistent later tomorrow. Northwest gales returning tomorrow.
Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland and FiordlandRain spreading south tonight and tomorrow, with heavy falls about the ranges, and northerly gales for a time.
Canterbury, Otago and SouthlandRain developing about the western ranges tomorrow, with scattered falls spreading east, and northwest gales about inland Canterbury.
Chatham IslandsCloudy. A period of rain tomorrow morning.
