Fine Offset Console Beeping
« on: April 13, 2016, 06:39:25 PM »
Capturing the following from the Social Chat section.

Weather console beep every hour during the night...had a look..needed new batteries...I think. Will see if it continues beeping every hour.

gabba: April 06, 2016, 12:04:28 PM
Bleeping weather console!. If not that then does it have a "frost" detection setting on it. Just thinking that it might be set high, and last night was a bit chillier than previous nights

Wolfie33: April 06, 2016, 06:57:11 PM
So intrepid, how did you go? Your WU data went haywire 5-7am, I'd guess its not battery, are you still a Fine Offset station?

intrepid: April 07, 2016, 05:04:04 AM
yep...does it show? I think the console keep rebooting itself so the readings would have been all over the place.

Wolfie33: April 07, 2016, 09:04:42 AM
No, it doesn't show, just checking is all. Weird!! I've seen reports of varying symptons with FO stations when bats decline, but not that one. Generally though with FO, something wrong then try new bats. WU data seems to have settled down since  :)

Technical question from someone who is not technical,  why is the weather console beeping intermittently,  like once in the morning and then three or four times in the afternoon,  batteries?,  its dying? We need a new one?

So Babs, 2 quick questions . . .

1]   Did the Brave One replace the bats, both console & sender unit?
2]   Are there any alarms set in the console, either intentional or otherwise?

Cheers

Yum not sure,  lots of bad language and muttering when he got home from work last night,  mention made of new station or suing battery manufacturers, not being technical I don't know what he has done,  but I did get told it was 4 degrees this morning so somethings working.
I guess there might be updates from him today or tonight

I think intrepid was beeping more than the console!  However it's all quiet on the console front this morning..

From Chat box so we may address:

intrepid: Batteries must have been no good...console rebooting every few minutes.  Taken batteries out and am feeding only via USB cable! WEill see how it goes
April 13, 2016, 08:01:02 PM

intrepid: Console still rebooting...even after taking out the batteries and running on the USB cable.  Console is faulty, by the looks of it.

As Wolfie mentioned re the beeping I would guess one or more alarms have been set.
Use your manual and go through each value either turning off or decrease/increase the alarm value.

The console turns off and turns on.....   weird.
Yep I would think faulty and I would be replacing if mine.

One other thing that popped in to my mind while cussing at my Win7 PC at work . .

How long since the bats in the sender unit were changed?
After you power down to do maintenance on the rain bucket or whatever, or change bats, then you power up again, the console beebs when a connection is made.
Maybe the bats in your sender unit are borderline or you have a moisture issue, and the thing is dropping out, then after a while there is enough grunt to get it up again. That would cause the symptons you are experiencing.

And I note your WU data went fizzpop effectively from a bit after 5pm yesterday.
So maybe running the console from USB power is not quite doing the job??

Cheers

I guess he will get back to you about the beeping bats (sounds like a new breed of bats)  sometime in the next 24 hours,  at present he is cussing (cool word Wolfie)  at a new game on his phone..

The batteries were new...as I had only replaced them last week.

Ran the console straight off the PC and it still rebooted by itself a few times.

Given the state of things, I finally pulled the USB cable so now its dead...its face is blank!

Long live the WS1081.... sniff!

Bummer intrepid!
Maybe it was the tinnitus . . . but thought I heard some distant wailing bagpipes mixed with a touch of bugle early this morning    :(

So any plans re replacement/fix yet?

Well, that's my next question....I was thinking I mighty replace it with a more modern console...maybe the WS2093.

Will that work with all the outdoor stuff?  Or will I need to buy a replacement transmitter.  Both transmitters use the 433MHz frequency...and all the outdoor stuff looks the same...

Well intrepid, should do . . probably I reckon ( a very definite qualified maybe? )
Haven't heard of a WS2093 and Auntie Googly coughed up all manner of stuff.
You probably mean the WS2083.
Looks like this    Replacement Console for WS2083 - Scientific Sales

If you pick one that has the same sort of sensor array (non solar ) you should be right.
Also not one from overseas, though an Aussie one might be OK.

I do know you can't mix the WS3083 sensor with a 2083 console, different data construct or transmission protocol or something like that.

However, I'd be inclined to get the whole set. You then at least have a spare set of sensors if needed & something that will work if there are any issues with your existing outdoor bits.

Cheers

Yes, you are right...finger trouble..I meant the 2083.

I thought about a complete set but I already have a spare set of sensors from the previous console meltdown!

I have already sent Scientific Sales a query asking them but no answer yet.

When I have matched up the older style as with the 1080/1081 the number they ask for is the number on the inside of the sensor on pole under the batteries.

Whether you could match the 2083 scientific sales will hopefully have your answer.

If it was me to gain that reliability I would buy a new unit.

Good luck either way :)

Finally got a reply back from Scientific Sales.

No, the 2093 won't do but the 1093 will be fine.  Still trying to decide whether to minimise outlay and go for just a console replacement or go for a new system...which would mean replacing all the sensors...which would mean going up the ladder...

Hmmm...

You could always have the good lady shimmy up the ladder while you supervise from a sensible position ??   ;)

Odd that a new transmitter will work with models WH1081, WS1081, WS1083, WS1093, WS2073, WS2083
but a new console won't work with earlier transmitters.
