Showers, frequent and heavier for a time around dawn.

Waikato to Kapiti, including the central high country and Wairarapa
Showers, some heavy and possibly thundery in the west, easing south of Taranaki this evening. Snow lowering to 600 metres affecting higher central North Island roads, such as the Desert Road.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Fine, apart from isolated showers.

Wellington, Marlborough and Nelson
Fine spells and isolated showers. Showers becoming widespread for a time in Marlborough and Wellington this morning.

Buller and Westland
Showers, some heavy and thundery with hail, falling as snow to 300 metres, clearing this morning.

Fiordland
Showers in the south and east, with snow to low levels. Fine in the northwest.

Canterbury
Showers, with snow to low levels, becoming confined to Banks Peninsula this morning. However, isolated afternoon or evening showers possible about the Plains.

Otago and Southland
Showers, falling as snow to low levels. Clearing in North and Central Otago this morning.

Chatham Islands
Showers, some heavy.
