'Your Weather' on the MetService website
« on: February 07, 2015, 07:06:48 PM »
The 'Your Weather' page has stopped loading for me today, and yesterday started very slow until it finally would not load.

Does anyone else have this problem with the 'Your Weather' page?

Thanks,
{sunny dry 22 C in Masterton)

Thanks for the reply Jenny.
15 minutes ago the Masterton 'Your Weather' loaded OK but now it is not at all,
just a blank page. I do have very good broadband speed.

Hmmmnn, this is interesting: I tried several other cities and the 'Your Weather' tab
opened up no problem, then I tried Palmerston North - which opened OK so I simply
pulled the map down to Masterton  ;D so this will be a work-around for me if needed.
Oh - just tried Masterton again and it loads perfectly. It is not a browser issue as I
have tried two other browsers on my PC as well as an Android tablet and all had issues
with Masterton. Well, if no one else here reports a problem and if I can use PalmNth as
a work-around then all is OK.

Jenny, on another matter, is there a Basic Info Page for Beginners to this forum?
For example I just discovered Weather Underground (via a post on this forum) and see that (non Met Service) weather stations are listed there.

9 degrees now, clear skies and dead calm. Will be nice when the sun warms things up!

Cheers,  the guy in Masterton

Now I cannot get any 'Your Weather' pages will not load - I checked several cities - internet speed is good (to England it is 13 Mbps).

Anyone else having this problem?

It loads OK for me. I suspect it is closely linked to the UK Met Service site and if they are down then the NZ Met pages go likewise.
The UK people are upgrading their site in the near future and maybe having a play with it at the moment. Also, I suspect that their resources to the site are not great as they take an age to respond to anything on their forum (or even responding to join the forum). Possibly a one man band.

All other websites, NZ and overseas, load OK. Restarting browsers make no difference. Adobe Flash is updated. I cannot see how resetting or restarting the router would enable the page to open but I may try it.

5 minutes ago I could not get 'Your Weather' pages to open from several cities that I tried. However now it loads OK and I changed nothing.

Anyhow it seems no one else has this problem so I will put it
down to a gremlin  :-\ I guess  ???

Weather Display - a few minutes ago the page would not load, again,
so I did restart the router and it loads now, faster than before.
I wonder why restarting the router would make a difference when other website pages are OK?

Think I found the problem. When 'Your Weather' is loading, on the bottom of the page
it shows "maps.gstatic.com  and googling this with "why is this slowing the page from loading" led to various answers, proving that this is a problem with many others.

One solution is to block scripting of maps.static.com  therefore I insrtalled a Chrome extension that blocks scripts on a page (if you want it to). So far, this works and the Your Weather page loads just fine.

BTW Jenny yes I clear out browser caches regularly.
