A trough is expected to move slowly east over the country during Friday, Saturday and early Sunday, bringing rain to many parts of the country. A Watch is currently in force for northern Westland, Buller, Nelson, Mt Taranaki, Northland, Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty, for the possibility of rainfall amounts exceeding warning criteria during this time - indicated as a high risk on the chart. In addition, there is a moderate risk of heavy rain about Auckland, Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taupo, Wanganui and Taihape from Saturday to early Sunday as this trough passes.
On Sunday, a ridge of high pressure is expected to move onto the country from the west, followed by another trough, which is forecast to move east over New Zealand during Monday and Tuesday. Another burst of rain is expected with this trough, followed by a cooler southerly change late on Tuesday.

A complex trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea is forecast to move slowly east across New Zealand over the next couple of days. A moist northerly flow ahead of this trough is expected to bring a period of heavy rain to northern and western parts of both islands.
A heavy rain warning is in force for the Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty.
This Watch is for the possibility of rainfall amounts reaching warning criteria (100mm falling in under 24 hours) in localised areas about the ranges of Westland, Buller, Nelson, also Mt Taranaki from tonight through to early Saturday morning, then about the ranges of northern Gisborne from tonight through to Saturday night.
This Watch also includes Auckland, Waikato and Taupo, a period of heavy rain is expected overnight, followed by a period of heavy showers Saturday afternoon and early evening. There is a risk of rainfalls reaching short duration warning criteria (for example 50mm falling in 6 hours) in these areas.

Lucky Bett, should be a good game.
We contemplated heading back down but decided against it with the weather lousy again.
We were soaked last week going to the All Blacks game.
Enjoy your visit Bett and yes sunshine will be nice

A front over Bay of Plenty, preceded by moist northerlies and heavy rain, is forecast to move eastwards today and should clear the North Island this evening. The heavy rain warning remains in force for Bay of Plenty east of Te Puke, where a further 60-90mm is expected about the ranges through to 6pm on top of rain that fell overnight. Rivers and streams are likely to rise and surface flooding and slips are possible.
Farther west in Bay of Plenty and for Coromandel Peninsula, heavy rain has now eased and warnings there are lifted. Note however, showers are expected today, especially this afternoon and early evening when some may be heavy with isolated thunderstorms.
