A ridge over the North Island brings mainly settled weather, northwesterlies will slowly build during the day however about the lower half of the island. Over the South Island the northwesterly airflow will be stronger, gales are possible in the east from afternoon. Showers in the west and south could be heavy and thundery with hail.

Northland
Mostly sunny with light winds in the morning, westerlies develop during the afternoon.
Highs: 18-20

Auckland
Sunny spells and areas of cloud with westerly breezes.
High: 18

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Sunny spells and some cloud with westerly breezes, skies mostly sunny about the Bay Of Plenty. Overnight the odd light shower may move into the Waikato and Central North Island.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island
Sunny with northwesterly breezes in the afternoon, northwesterlies about Wairarapa become gusty after midday.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island
Sunny with some cloud, northwesterly breezes building in the afternoon. A few overnight showers develop about Kapiti and northern Taranaki.
High: 16-18

Wellington
Sunny with a few clouds, northerlies strengthen in the morning rising to gale force in the afternoon. A showers move in around midnight.
High: 16

Nelson
Sunny spells with northerly winds building becoming strong in the afternoon. Chance of a late evening shower.
High: 17

Marlborough
Mainly sunny with gusty northwesterlies, strong to gale force from afternoon. Some late afternoon high cloud.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury
Sunny with northwesterly winds building, strong northwesterlies in the afternoon gusting to gale at times especially inland. Some cloud at times mid afternoon onwards through till midnight may bring a shower or two spreading from the west.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Rain, heavy and thundery with hail from afternoon and strengthening northerly winds. Rain and northerlies ease overnight.
High: 14

Coastal Otago
Sunny with some cloud, cloud increasing in the afternoon. Northwesterly winds strengthen in the morning possibly gusting to gale force in the afternoon. A late afternoon westerly change brings a few brief showers which clear late evening.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Central Otago
Cloudy with periods of rain, rain easing to showers in the afternoon as gusty northwesterlies tend westerly. Showers may be heavy and thundery with hail
High: 11
