The North Island is mostly settled today under the influence of a high pressure system to the north of the country. For the South Island northwesterly winds build for most ahead of a front which moves onto the lower South Island this morning bringing rain. Warm in the east generally with high cloud, rain out west.

Northland
Mostly sunny with light west to southwest winds, about eastern coastal areas winds could tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-19

Auckland
Sunny areas and some cloud with southwesterly breezes.
High: 18

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Sunny spells and some cloud with westerly winds, about the Bay Of Plenty expect mostly sunny weather.
Highs: 19-21

Eastern North Island
Sunny with light winds, about the Wairarapa however expect breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-26

Western North Island
Sunny areas and some cloud with westerly breezes, brisk in the afternoon. Chance of a late shower about Kapiti and then northern Taranaki overnight.
Highs: 17-19

Wellington
Sunny with some cloud, thickening later. Northerlies become strong this afternoon.
High: 16

Nelson
Sunny with some high cloud, thickening in the evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, thickening in the evening. Gusty northwesterly winds develop this morning.
Highs: 22-23

Canterbury
Thick high cloud with gusty northwesterly winds, becoming strong for a time in the evening especially inland.
Highs: 20-21

West Coast
Cloudy with rain about South Westland spreading into North Westland during the afternoon, northerly winds increase.
Highs: 14-15

Coastal Otago
Thick high cloud with northwesterly winds, scattered rain develops during the afternoon then eases in the evening to showers with a southwest change.
High: 18-19

Central Otago
Cloudy areas with gusty northwesterly winds, a few brief showers may spread from the west at times. Rain develops in the afternoon then clears overnight.
Highs: 17-18

Southland
Cloudy with rain developing this morning, westerly winds. A southerly change in the afternoon then rain clears later in the evening.
Highs: 13-14
