A front crossed the upper North Island overnight and is now moving over the lower North Island. The watch for heavy rain over Bay of Plenty ahead of the front is now lifted.
A burst of heavy thundery rain is likely to affect the Coromandel Peninsula from tonight through Sunday morning and rainfall accumulations may approach warning levels.
