North Island, rain for most, heavy first from Taranaki down to Wellington and Wairarapa ranges, easing to showers by afternoon. Scattered rain in Gisborne, clearing evening. South Island, rain in north and east, heavy falls about ranges first, easing but clearing in north evening. Mainly fine with a few showers elsewhere.

Wednesday
North Island, mainly fine with isolated showers. South Island, mainly fine in north apart from a few morning showers in Marlborough. Rain developing in south, reaching Buller in west and Banks Peninsula in east by evening, some heavy thundery falls possible.

Thursday
North Island, mostly fine, with isolated showers over central and southern regions. South Island, rain in north, easing to isolated showers in the afternoon. Occasional showers in far south. Showers clearing for most areas at night.

Friday
Mostly fine over the country. A few morning showers about the coast from Wairarapa down to the south. Late rain over Fiordland.

Chatham Islands
Rain with strong northerlies turn to showers and southwesterlies by evening on Wednesday, clearing at night. Rain and northerlies return on Thursday, some heavy falls possible, then turning to showers with gale southwesterlies in the evening. On Friday, heavy showers and gale southwesterlies gradually easing.
