Weekend could be a bit unsettled for some
« Reply #1 on: November 24, 2012, 12:37:14 AM »
High pressure building over the Tasman Sea could set up a rather unsettled start to the weekend.

Showers are possible about the lower and western Mainland tomorrow morning. Northland, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay could also see some showers but those should be confined the early morning hours.

As tomorrow wears on, most of the North Island should be precipitation-free, although a fair amount of clouds will likely remain. Especially about the north where a few rogue showers can’t be ruled out for Auckland and Northland.

On the South Island, a few showers will still be possible for Nelson and for the coastal sections of Southland. Otherwise, dry weather is expected.

On Sunday, that high grows as it drifts east. It should keep most of the country dry except along the western part of the South Island where the onshore flow will keep precipitation chances going. Best chance for showers will be after mid-morning for Westland and areas south.

Afternoon highs both days should be around 20, although Sunday is likely to be a few degrees warmer than Saturday. Especially along the eastern parts of both islands. Christchurch could be flirting with 25 Sunday afternoon.

A large high is giving NZ some protection from the rain clouds this weekend. While a few showers may pop up here and there, especially in Southland, the forecast for New Zealand is for mostly dry weather is cloudy periods in the mix too.

Dry and settled tomorrow for most
« Reply #3 on: November 25, 2012, 11:07:56 PM »
Unless you are on southern or western parts of the Mainland, you can expect to see a pretty dry day tomorrow.

High pressure centred off to our northwest will keep much of the country dry. However, a front is expected to begin pushing onshore across the deep south tomorrow. That could bring showers to the coastal sections of Southland tomorrow evening.

WeatherWatch.co.nz Forecaster Howard Joseph says that ahead of the front, west winds will develop along the western parts of the South Island.

Mr Joseph says “It’s that onshore flow that could spark some showers tomorrow afternoon lasting into tomorrow evening. However, most of the afternoon activity should be confined to Fiordland. By late evening, a few showers may make their way north into Westland.”

The rest of the country is looking dry and settled tomorrow. Temperatures should generally be warmer than what was seen today. A few spots may even crack the 25 degree mark tomorrow including Christchurch and Hamilton.
