High in the Tasman for the rest of next week
« Reply #1 on: November 25, 2012, 11:50:14 PM »
For the rest of November the same area of high pressure is likely to sit in the Tasman Sea with a west to southwest airflow lying over the country. A few fronts will work their way north over New Zealand during this time but most are not very strong, the main ones being tomorrow Monday then another couple later next week on Friday.

Therefore eastern parts of the country will experience the better weather coming up while in the west there will often be days plagued by cloud.

Extreme forms of weather are mostly out the door however westerly quater winds from time to time will be strong about the Southland coastline and in Cook Strait.

Not till early December will some systems get a little more active to the southwest of the country and have enough boot power to kick away the high lurking in the Tasman Sea.

Warm out east tomorrow, some cloud in the west
« Reply #3 on: November 26, 2012, 11:47:15 PM »
Tomorrow we’ll have a westerly airflow over the country and eastern parts from North Otago right up to Gisborne are expected to have mostly sunny conditions with warm temperatures, the warmest of which will mainly be about Canterbury and Marlborough with high’s between 25 and 26 degrees likely.

The Bay Of Plenty will not miss out on a nice day though, being a bit more on the eastern side of the North Island will mean it is more sheltered from cloud and westerly breezes.

For Auckland there should be sunny periods about during the day but expect some cloud also which will thicken up a little in the evening. Similar conditions are expect about most western districts tomorrow with winds tending a little more northwest in Wellington and southwest on the West Coast of the South Island.

The most extreme type of weather tomorrow will come in the form of strong westerly winds about Southland, there is a chance they could gust to gale force on the coast especially in the morning. Winds will then ease late afternoon.

Southerly on the way for Thursday and Friday
« Reply #4 on: November 28, 2012, 12:26:43 AM »
A southerly change is due to move up the east coast of the South Island this coming Thursday and is likely to deliver some rain about Canterbury, other eastern parts of the South Island including Southland, Otago and Marlborough are more likely to receive precipitation in the form of showers meaning lesser amounts of the wet stuff overall.

There is the low risk of a thunderstorm popping up in Canterbury in the afternoon as this southerly change moves through so something to keep an eye on.

On Friday morning this southerly burst will move onto the east coast of the North Island, Wairarapa is likely to get most of the rain with Hawkes Bay and Gisborne subject to showers.

Due to the southerly nature of this change western areas of both islands are largely going to miss out on its affects, Fiordland and South Westland may cop some rain in the initial stages as the front moves onto the South Island on Thursday morning.

Key dates for precipitation for the North Island are tomorrow afternoon, there may be the odd shower in a westerly airflow mainly about Taranaki northwards and including the Bay Of Plenty. Those light showers will clear by midday Thursday. Early next week a front moving in should deliver further showers for the North Island. Neither areas of precipitation at this stage look to be really good rain makers which some districts need including the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty so hopefully something gets going soon for early December.

No outside after work drinks this Friday
« Reply #5 on: November 29, 2012, 11:30:34 PM »
Some of us pop out after work for a drink on Friday looking to chill out with friends usually, and hopefully with the last remaining warm weather of the day. Unfortunately this will not be happening tomorrow as it’ll be too cold! After work drinks in front of a fire is a possible idea? But at the end of November not ideal.

There will be a cold southwesterly airflow over the country, showers in the east of the South Island clearing for most although the odd shower may hang about Christchurch and southeastern Otago till evening. For the North Island expect a more widespread area of showers in the morning for the lower half of the Island then showers becoming more restricted to the east coast in the afternoon.

Still, there will be plenty of cloudy areas for most of the North Island tomorrow and winds with be quite gusty from the southwest strong at times about Auckland. Conditions will be mostly dry north of the Waikato and about the Bay Of Plenty but there is room for the odd brief shower at times during the day, mainly in the west.

High’s tomorrow for the main centres will be 12 to 13 in Dunedin, 13-14 in Christchurch and Wellington and then 16 to 17 in Auckland. So Auckland does get the warmer high’s but indoors will still be best.

The most pleasant spots tomorrow will likely be Hokitika through to Westport, Nelson and the Bay Of Plenty in the north, these areas being more sheltered from the southwest airflow will reach high’s of 17 to 19 degrees. Most importantly there will be some sunshine in these places too.
