Fine and cool, some light cirrus high up in the sky.  O/N low of -0.2ºC, currently at 1.9ºC.  A cool 5km/hr sou-easter outside!  The frost has been blown off the grass but still sits on roof and windscreen of the cars.  A nice day dawns.

High cloud spreads over the upper North Island today with mostly sunny weather, rain however spreads south during the day from the tip of Northland reaching Auckland overnight with gusty southeasterly winds. Mostly fine and sunny over the lower half of the island with easterly breezes picking up a little later in the day and some high cloud developing at night.

Sunny in the South Island with light winds tending southerly for a time in Otago and Canterbury in the afternoon. Some drizzle about Fiordland with westerly winds, morning showers clear in Southland with afternoon sun there. About Otago expect sunny areas and some cloud, in the afternoon there is the low risk of a few afternoon showers popping up over some hills and ranges.

High’s on a bit more of a level playing field across the country today, 14 to 15 for most in the North Island, similar temperatures for the South Island also however Fiordland a bit cooler around 12 to 13 degrees.

An anticyclone over the country has turned on sunny weather for most of NZ today and one point to mention is the lack of wind, it has allowed temperatures to creep up. There is some rain in Northland however and about the far south in Southland a few showers moved through this morning.

Christchurch hit 17 degrees 30 minutes ago, Auckland has similar temperatures also and Blenheim is on 16 right now. Easterly breezes will start to slowly pick up today north of Auckland however.

This afternoon there is a low risk of a few isolated showers popping up over hills and ranges in Otago, due to some cold upper air and relatively warm surface temperatures making the air a little unstable. Perhaps the most that will happen is some fluffy cumulus clouds will hover about from now onwards.

There will be a few frosts about Central Otago tonight and about inland areas of the South Island, while it may get chilly in other areas of the South Island tonight it will stick above 0 degrees especially in coastal areas as a general northeasterly airflow begins to pick up over the country. The North Island will remain frost free tonight.
