West Melton

Snow on ground everywhere and the trees look absolutely beautiful.
Roads closed and power outgoes everywhere. We had one for a couple of house. Just about to get anther with the lights dimming and flickering etc.

Port Robinson 4.10pm
Been an eventfuul day for me. Left ChCh for home at 8.15am and got there at 11.30am (usually a 90min trip). Truck off the road at the Omihi saddle which held us up on the side of the road for an hour. 70-70kmh most of the way through thick snow. 3 hour power cut soon after arriving, and the emergency generator which I test every couple of months refused to start. Murphy grinning from on high. Snow starting to melt. This is the third year in a row we've had snow . Used to be a 1 in 20 year event. I am a global warming sceptic!!
Temperature is 3.4° after reaching the heady heights of 4.4°. Sleeting at the moment.

currently 1.4°C in Reefton which is the warmest it's been since 10am this morning. hovered from 0.7-0.9°C from 10.30am to 6pm.
approx 5cm snow settled at work, but only a light settling at home.
very chilly SW breeze - recorded a station record low wind chill of -10.3°C this afternoon.
