From Stuff.co.nz 1 Nov 2013

Hail has pelted parts of the country, as the MetService warns of damaging 20mm-plus hailstones in Canterbury. Residents have reported hailstones in Canterbury, while Wellington suburbs, including Johnsonville, Kilbirnie, Ngaio and Khandallah, have also been lashed.

The MetService said wind convergence combined with afternoon heating should produce scattered heavy showers with hail about eastern areas from Wairarapa to Canterbury.

Thunderstorms were also expected, with some being severe in Canterbury, accompanied by the huge hailstorms.

Cheers, Andrew

Nice and clear in New Plymouth but rather coolish at 9.8 degrees. Light SW breeze
"Send more beer!"
