Waitakere

A nice clear morning but not too cold at our level - our low was 5.0°C and now up to 7.9°C
We had quite a heavy dew that has resulted in a 0.2 mm tip - down in the valley there was almost the beginnings of a light frost in places and plenty of fog to drive through.

Sort of fine and sort of cloudy which is supposed to clear, you know the kind of morning that can go either way.  Not that chilly either well it cant be cos I dont have socks on yet.

I measure how cold it is whether is is a sock wearing day or not, Him Indoors reckons I am nuts and he could be right cos now I think I have chilblains on my toes.

Weather report for 19/07/12 from Ohauiti Weather

Obseravation:
Gorgeous day here, warm and sunny . . . another #&@%tsleeves and bare feet day, doors and windows wide open.  Cold start today with some thin high cloud but that soon burnt off and we had another Blue Dome sky like yesterday for a few hours.  It is still sunny and warm but some smallish CB's are starting to stand off the Kaimai's in the light West to South West breeze.

Beautiful sunny day, made it to a high of 14.7°C and now down to 8.2°C - could be a coldish night unless it gets cloudy.

Thursday’s national forecast
« Reply #15 on: July 19, 2012, 10:14:43 PM »
Sunny weather across most of the North Island today with light winds, perhaps some morning cloud on western coastlines in northern Taranaki but it should clear. There is the chance of some fog in Auckland and about the Waikato early this morning aswell.

Morning frosts are again possible in the Central North Island but won’t be heavy. A little cloud looks like developing about the east coast north of Auckland in the afternoon as winds tend easterly. High’s tomorrow once again around the mid teen mark, a little cooler inland.

Settled weather on the east coast of the South Island, also some high cloud. Winds may tend southwesterly later in the afternoon in Canterbury cooling down temperatures. Nelson will experience sunny weather and light winds. Dry in Southland with west to northwest breezes, a little high cloud.

Mostly cloudy south of Hokitika with drizzle patches at times in Fiordland, north of Hokitika there will be sunny breaks and light westerly breezes. High’s around the mid teens for most although a bit cooler in Central Otago and along the West Coast.

Fog continues to disrupt flights at Auckland Domestic
« Reply #16 on: July 19, 2012, 10:31:48 PM »
As WeatherWatch.co.nz first alerted to on our Facebook page two hours ago, fog continues to affect flights in and out of Auckland domestic airport this morning.

As of 9:15am 43 flights were either cancelled or delayed in the domestic terminal according to Auckland Airport's website - most of those cancelled rather than delayed.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says the fog is thick in places but isn't as widespread as the major fog disruptions earlier this month.

WeatherWatch.co.nz expects the fog to linger until late morning for some areas.

Not all of Auckland is affected by fog, those suburbs that are fog free have mostly sunny skies.

While winds are currently light, an easterly breeze is predicted to develop this afternoon.

International flights are operating as usual however WeatherWatch.co.nz advises all air travellers nationwide to check airline and airport websites before travelling today with airports across New Zealand affected by Auckland's disruptions.

Pleasant in Christchurch
« Reply #17 on: July 19, 2012, 10:45:00 PM »
Have to say the weather is quite nice in Christchurch today, conditions are very still and temperatures currently around 15 or 16 degrees in the city. Nice for a winters day.

Cloud is moving onto the east coast north of Auckland as easterly winds develop. Sunny in most other areas of the North Island with light winds after morning fog burnt off although cloud is moving onto the coast south of Taranaki as north to northwesterly winds develop there, a slim chance there might be some drizzle from Taranaki southwards this evening. Temperatures are currently around 14 degrees for most places, north of Auckland there are 15 and 16 temperatures showing. In the Central North Island readings are quite cool, sitting on high single figures or just getting into double figures.

The South Island still has plenty of high cloud east of the main divide, Christchurch while nice now may cool down a little as high cloud looks like thickening this afternoon. North of Christchurch and through to Nelson skies look to be clear and sunny with some thin high cloud. Some West Coast places are actually quite sunny which is nice, although cloud still hampers Fiordland with drizzle patches. Southland has a northerly breeze and some high cloud also.

Temperatures are hitting around 12 or 13 degrees from Timaru southwards, north of Ashburton most places are getting into the mid teens. Westport is currently on 14 degrees.
