Weather Station Software Configuration
Before your weather station data can be used by the
New Zealand Local Weather Network
(NZLWN), you will need to configure your chosen Weather Station software to upload data in a format our server can read. Currently we can process data from WeatherLink, Weather Display, Weather Underground HeavyWeather Uploader (WUHU), Cumulus, and Virtual Weather Station. Please see the appropriate section below on how to configure your software.
If you need help please submit questions under
New Zealand Local Network Map Requests
and one of our Software Gurus will assist.
Once you have completed these steps please post your details under Requests and your Station will be added.
Software:
Weather Link
Weather Display
Virtual Weather Station
Weather Underground HeavyWeather
Cumulus
WeatherLink
Configuration
Save the file
"WL_stickertags.htx"
(right click and select the "Save Link As..." option) to the WeatherLink template directory - usually "c:\program files\weatherlink\<stationname>\templates".
From the main screen of WeatherLink, click on "Setup" and then select the "Internet Settings..." option
In the [Internet Setting] window, select an existing "Profile" (such as the one you have been using to upload Weatherlink's HTML files) or create a new profile.
Click the "Configure" button at the bottom of the selected profile.
In the [Data Upload Profile] window, click on the "Upload every" button and select (at a minimum) every 5 minutes.
In the [Data Upload Profile] window, click on the "Select Template Files" button.
In the [Weather Templates Files for Data Upload Profile] window, click on the "Add" button, and search for and select the "WL_stickertags.htx" file.
Ensure that the extension "htx" is correctly entered in the box beside "Extension of Converted Template File".
"C:\Program Files\Weatherlink\<stationname>\Templates\WL_stickertags.htx" should now appear in the [Weather Templates Files for Data Upload Profile] window. Click the "OK" button to first exit the [Weather Templates Files for Data Upload Profile] window; again, click the "OK" button to exit the [Data Upload Profile] window; and, finally, click the "OK" button to exit the [Internet Setting] window.
The "WL_stickertags.htx" file should/will be uploaded at the next WeatherLink update cycle (with the filetype/file extension that you have specified in the [Data Upload Profile] window).
Weather Display
Configuration
If Weather Display is already doing real-time "clientraw.txt" upload, such as for Weather-Display Live or for one of the AJAX weather templates, no additional configuration is required.
The weather data file "clientraw.txt" file should be uploaded (at a minimum) every 5 minutes.
If further help is needed please post under New Zealand Local Network Maps request or on the board under Weather Display
Virtual Weather
Station Configuration
Save the file
"VWS_stickertags.htx"
(right click and select the "Save Link As..." option) to your VWS templates sub-directory ("c:\vws\templates" is usually the default sub-directory).
From the main screen of Virtual Weather Station, click on "Internet" option, and select "HTML Settings".
In an empty location on the left (Templates) side of the [HTML Settings] window, enter the complete path to the file "VWS_stickertags.htx", editing the path as necessary to point to the correct drive and folder (by default, it should be "c:\vws\template\VWS_stickertags.htx").
On the right (HTML Filename) side of the [HTML Settings] window, on the same line, enter the complete path to the location where the file "VWS_stickertags.htm" will be produced (ie: "c:\vws\template\VWS_stickertags.htm").
On the left (On*) side of the [HTML Settings] window, on the same line, click the box to put a check mark in it.
Finally, click the "Close" button to exit the [HTML Settings] window.
From the main screen of Virtual Weather Station, click on "Internet" option, and select "FTP Upload File (Send)" option.
In an empty location on the left (FTP Send (Upload) Files) side of the [FTP Upload File (Send)] window, enter the same information as you have entered in the right (HTML Filename) side of the [HTML Settings] window (ie: "c:\vws\template\VWS_stickertags.htm").
On the right (To Location (Server)) side of the [FTP Upload File (Send)] window, enter the server directory path you use to upload the other files of your Web site - if you are uploading the Virtual Weather Station files to the root directory of your server then the entry should be "/VWS_stickertags.htm".
On the right (Schedule) side of the [FTP Upload File (Send)] window, click on the calendar icon to open the [Schedule] window. Under the "Update Method", select "Interval" and set the "Interval" to (at a minimum) 5 minutes. Click the "Close" button.
At the bottom of the [FTP Upload File (Send)] window, click on the "Update Now" button to upload the files to your Web server (Internet).
You should be able to check/see the results of your file in action with your browser by going to (for example): " <yourweatherwebsite.com> /VWS_stickertags.htm".
Weather Underground
HeavyWeather Uploader (WUHU) Configuration
NOTE! Needs WUHU 216 Beta 40 or newer !!
Save the file
"WUHU_stickertags.txt"
to folder of your choice.
Expand WUHU and click the Alerts/Actions-button. A new window will appear.
In Main Action/Alert, select Enable Actions and Repetitions and set the value for Selections to 1.
In WUHU Operation Alarms/Actions, select On Weather Update. If you want to update the file ie. every 2 minutes, select also On Update Seconds and set the value to 120.
Click on Sound/Action-button (below Weather Update). A new window will appear.
Write the next string in Action on Activation:
template:"X:\(where_you_have_saved_WUHU_stickertags.txt)\WUHU-stickertags.txt" "X:\(where_you_want_to_save_the_file)\WU_stickertags.txt"
X: is the partition-letter. The above string is an example, configure to match your own computer.
Confirm by clicking OK
Save the changes with Save Changes
You should be able to see your file in action at www. yourweatherwebsite .com/WU_stickertags.txt
Cumulus
Software Configuration
The weather data file "realtime.txt" file should be uploaded (at a minimum) every 5 minutes.
Make sure you are uploading the realtime.txt file from your Cumulus software.
Internet Settings. Sites/Options. Web Settings. Select Enable Realtime. Enable Realtime FTP. Realtime.txt FTP.
Click Ok for changes to be made.
