All the North Island, except Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Rain and squally thunderstorms for a time overnight. Further showers tomorrow, with isolated thunderstorms and hail north of Levin. Localised damaging winds possible from late this evening until early tomorrow morning.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
A period of rain early tomorrow, then fine breaks and isolated showers. Northwest gales in exposed places tonight.

Nelson and Marlborough
Rain and thunderstorms easing to showers overnight. Showers retreating to the ranges tomorrow. Northwest gales, severe in exposed places until tonight.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland
Showers, some heavy and possibly thundery with hail, clearing south of Hokitika tomorrow.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Rain in the west, briefly spreading elsewhere tonight. Showers tomorrow, with snow lowering to 300 metres in Otago and Southland. Northwest gales in Canterbury easing tonight.

Chatham Islands
Fine spells tonight, rain developing tomorrow.
