Problem moving WD to another computer
« on: September 30, 2017, 08:48:32 AM »
For the last couple of days, I've been trying to move WD from an ancient Compaq running XP to an Pavillion G6 I7 laptop running Windows10.
First up, I just copied the entire wdisplay directly over to the new machine and fired it up. All seemed to operating normally and it said it was a registered copy. It was only a while later, I realised it wasn't producing a clientraw.txt file. All the other clientraw files were being created, just not the clientraw.txt file. I've tried ftp'ing it to my server from the 'Fiile/create' section, but WD just doesn't seem to be creating the file.
Since then I have tried a number of re-installs with the latest version, but to no avail and I'm at a loss to know what to try next..

UPDATE.  Installed the latest new install 10.37557 on another Windows10 computer and only copied over only the WDISPLAY.ini file. WD comes up as a trial copy.  A clientraw.txt file was produced in C:\wdisplay\webfiles. I then mapped a drive to my Webserver root where I wanted the clientraw to sit. I then changed in the Control Panel->Webfiles-set Location of Clientraw files to the mapped drives. I saved everything and re-loaded WD. The clientrawdaily.txt, Clientrawextra.txt etc file showed up there, but NO Clientraw.txt. I then changed the directory back to C::\wdisplay\webfiles and again the ohers clientraw files appeared, BUT NO CLIENTRAW.TXT file. Is there a bug in the latest copy?

PS
My computer is using a USB->com adapter to connect the VP2 consol up. The old Compaq had a serial port.

Yes, Internet switches etc just fine.

I have just restored a backup copy of version 37R build 74 and that is functioning on the Win10 computer as it should.

With the latest version when I changed the clientraw to save to my mapped drive (Y:) it shows up as Y:\\ (two backstokes) and withought the remainder of the mapping (Y:\\192.168.1.137\web) Should this be so?
On 37R it displays the same drive mapping as Y:\

regards
TC

I've come to the conclusion that maybe its the HP Laptop that just doesn't like WD.
Back to the drawing board........................ (and the old computer)

you did not mention that its a mapped drive
that adds a complication layer
and is likely where the problem is

Thanks Brian,

I've been playing with "work-arounds" ftp'ing rather than saving the files directly to Server and it's operating on the laptop at the moment. I'll run the upgrade to 37S after I've made sure it's stable. Reading the FAQ again helped especially running the FTP reg file  :)

cheers
