Coldest temperature ever in Bariloche – As if that weren’t enough, a thick layer of snow covered the city after the worst snowstorm in 20 years. ________________________The situation in the main cities of Patagonia is worrying. Power cuts, closed stores, closed roads, canceled flights, fallen trees and light poles caused real chaos in several cities in southern Argentina and left the area practically isolated.San Carlos de Bariloche was one of the cities most affected by the snow storm, as about 16,000 users (32% of the total) lost power.“This snowstorm was exceptional, similar to that of 1995. There are a lot of fallen trees, which destroyed the slopes causing the entire poles to fall,” it was reported from the Bariloche Electricity Cooperative (CEB).“Frío extremo: Bariloche registró la temperatura más baja de su historia,” reads the headline.According to the National Weather Service, the temperature dropped to 25.4°C below zero (-13.7°F) in Bariloche  this morning, setting a new record. (Not just for the date mind you, but the coldest ever. )In Patagonia the cold left some snow in the Cordillera and west of Río Negro, Chubut and Neuquén, which could leave between 20 and 40 cm (8 to 16 inches) of snow in the lowlands, “said the agency. At the airport there were  36 hours without flights, As of Friday night, some 2,500 passengers were stranded in Bariloche alone.By today, most airports had re-opened, but the airport in Chapelco in the precordillera of Neuquén remains closed due to the intense snowfall. The worst snowfall in 20 years was bad enough. However, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the city rionegrina registered the lowest temperature in its history. The SMN indicated in its official Twitter account that a 54-year mark was broken, thus surpassing -21.1 ° C, recorded on June 30, 1963. Bariloche had a snow accumulation of up to 50 cm (20 inches). The historical cold was triggered by the intense cold wave that is advancing over South America and, on Monday, begins to hit Brazil with great force. It also snowed in Bahia Blanca, in the province of Buenos Aires, where snow is not usual.
