You'll also notice that the balmy overnight temperatures were at the bottom of the South Island!!

Yes but surprisingly the very bottom was at the other end of the scale.
Dunedin, Winton, Stewart Island, Mosgiel & Makarewa were all between 5 and 9°C

Colder down bottom tonight though.
