Windows10 P2P updates
« on: August 01, 2015, 06:54:05 PM »
For those people updating to Windows10 and have data caps on their internet accounts, they should be aware of a potential problem of their bandwidth and data allowance being gobbled up by other Windows10 users getting updates to their Operating System.

http://lifehacker.com/windows-10-uses-your-bandwidth-to-distribute-updates-d-1721091469

I found this out today while installing Windows10 on my repaired Acer AIO. We are on wireless broadband at Port Robinson and I complained to the provider about the lack of speed. (One of the few ISP's where you can actually chat to the person who maintains it). Apparently everyone else on the system is downloading Win10 which is bogging the system down.  He gave me the above link.

In case the link goes down, here are the steps to turn it off
 1.   Search for “Check for updates” in the Start menu.
 2.   Under “Windows Update” choose “Advanced options.”
 3.   Under “Choose how updates are installed” click “Choose how updates are delivered.”
 4.   Disable the toggle under “Updated from more than one place.”

cheers
TC

Doesn't that simply stop you asking 'others' rather than stoping you 'broadcasting' ?
Imagine what you will KNOW tomorrow

According to Microsoft, turning off the "delivery optimization" disables the P2P utilization altogether.
