A low pressure system moves away from the North Island to the northeast today. Expect a southeasterly airflow with a few showers on the east coast and about Northland, cloud gradually clearing elsewhere. In the South Island a high pressure system starts to move in from the Tasman Sea bringing generally sunnier weather, a cool south to southwesterly airflow will ease during the day about the east coast.

Northland
Showers ease around midday with the last few stragglers clearing in the afternoon, sunny spells gradually develop from afternoon also, gusty southeasterly winds.

Auckland
Morning cloudy areas then sunny spells increase from midday, brisk southeasterly winds developing in the morning.
Highs: 17

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Cloudy areas in the morning then sunny spells increase in the afternoon, brezzy southeasterly winds develop in the morning then ease overnight. Cloud may take till mid afternoon to clear about the Bay Of Plenty and there could even be a brief shower or two around midday.

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with southerlies freshening in the morning, the odd shower at times mainly for Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. Wairarapa stays fairly dry but there is still the risk of a brief shower now and then.
Highs: 12-13

Western North Island
Morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny day. Southeasterly winds, gusty at times in the afternoon especially about Taranaki.
Highs: 14-15

Wellington
Cloudy periods with brisk southerlies, chance of a brief shower now and then otherwise mainly dry.
High: 11

Nelson
Sunny after any early cloudy clears, southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Marlborough
Sunny after any early cloud clears. Cool south to southeasterly winds, easing overnight.
High: 13

Canterbury
Morning cloudy areas then sunny spells developing from mid morning, cool southerlies ease dying out by evening.
Highs: 10-11

West Coast
Sunny with light winds.
Highs: 15-16

Coastal Otago
Morning cloudy spells then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, breezy cool southwesterlies ease dying out in the evening.
High: 10

Central Otago
Mainly sunny with just a few clouds about, light southerly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Southland
Morning cloudy areas break to afternoon sunny spells, southwesterly breezes die out later in the evening.
High: 10

For Northland, Showers, persistent and heavier in the east at first, clearing this evening.
For Auckland to Kapiti, also Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country, Mainly fine, with a few showers about northern Auckland and Coromandel clearing this evening.
Gisborne to Wairarapa, also Wellington, Cloudy periods, and the odd shower.
Nelson, and Buller to Fiordland, Fine, apart from a few morning showers about southern Fiordland.
Marlborough, Canterbury and Central Otago, Mainly fine, with the odd shower about Banks Peninsula and the Kaikoura Coast until evening.
Remainder of Otago, and Southland, Cloudy periods and a few morning showers, but becoming fine this afternoon.
