A front is expected to move south over Northland and Auckland this afternoon but weaken as is passes over Waikato. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms associated with this front for Northland and Auckland during the afternoon.
A low risk of evening thunderstorms also exists for the Coromandel Peninsula, northern Waikato and the coastal areas of Waikato,Waitomo and northern Taranaki.
Southwesterlies are expected to rise to gale in exposed parts of Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula Sunday afternoon. Gusts could reach around 100 km/h. The wind is expected to ease Monday evening.
Heavy rain in the north of Gisborne has eased, showers for most of the north island. Sunny spells for the top half. Showers for the east and the south half.
