Good morning from a VERY wet Napier. Rain started here in the small hours of yesterday morning, with rainfall rates steadily increasing throughout the day. Wind speeds increased slowly during the day, to become fresh and gusty from the east by mid-afternoon. By midnight last night, we'd recorded 47.7mm of rain, with a maximum wind gust of 45kph.
Both wind speed and rain intensity continued to increase overnight, with a maximum instantaneous rainfall rate of 80mm/hr at 04:54hrs. The noise was so loud it woke me up, so I came and sat in front of the Cumulus display for a wee while...

And yes, its still raining, with occasional brief but very heavy bursts, driven along by a fresh to strong easterly wind. Today's rainfall thus far stands at 36.8mm, with 70mm recorded for the last 24hrs, and 84.5mm for the month. Since we'd had no rain prior to this storm, our event rainfall total is also 84.5mm.
