WD not working
« on: May 16, 2013, 06:06:42 PM »
On the 13th April, WD stopped working and froze. I rebooted the software and all we got was a black background screen and no data being received. I have up dated the software to the latest version and also rebooted the computer. Still no joy.
How do I get it back into a working order? Do I have to unzip and reinstall the 12th April backup INI file?
Thanks
JT

Hi John, not good about your failure.

In the wdisplay\databackup folder in  there is a file that holds all your configuration info.
wdisplayftp.reg. (There is one also inside the dated backup files in that folder.)
Find this file, right click on the mouse & choose "merge".
This will restore the settings for your station.
It would pay to restart windows after to be sure.

Then you "may" have to import your data from the station. Let me know if so.

Hi Deano,
Thanks for the reply. Have done as asked but sadly no change. WD is still US.

John, any idea what caused the freeze in the first place?
Was it a powercut or similar?
Haven't changed any cables or anything else at all?
Is everything reading ok on the console?

John, how is the station connected to the computer?
Is it serial or USB?

It may also pay to go into the WD control panel & verify the port assignment & station type is correct.

Hello Deano,

a)I think it was a power cut that caused the problem,
b)Serial port No 1
c) Computer is all good regarding connections, also it is showing correct date and time.

This is from Deano who has lost internet connection this evening.

Quote
Check under control panel, com port to see if the right port is selected.
He should also check his station type to be sure. That is next to com port.
Even may pay to try another port.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Station is now running and uploading to the web.
It required the station name to be reset etc. If I had done it sooner none of the data would have been lost. All good in hindsight. Basicly  the power surge screwed the WD system and took out all the station settings even though we had a surge protector installed in the power supply line.
Just one more adjustment required and that is to reset the webcam image into the banner on the main page of WD and also to get the image uploading onto my web page. Any help out there? Then hopefully we are fully back on track.
