"Fix or shut" buildings, engineer urges.
« on: March 02, 2012, 01:33:26 PM »
It is such a pity that they do not take  heed of good advice - instead of pussy footing around now for over 17 months.  Our quake in September of 2010 of 7.1 mag created a lot of damage in Christchurch and what didnt fall down a lot of them  is being remedied to 33% of the building code - a lot had already been done to this criteria.  Too many meetings and not enough being done as far as decisions are concerned.  I know it is a massive job and the guys pulling down buildings are now working 7 days to take these buildings down as quickly as possible but the decisions are not being made quickly enough for the benefit of the city.
