Correcting rainfall totals
« on: March 03, 2013, 09:00:33 AM »
Hi all

I have a whole month of data (rainfall totals I'd like to update)

I go into view - rain chart Detailed Rain data. Check the year is 2013 and click on Rain Data tab. It shows Feb as having 2 rain day totals only - both at 0.0mm. The rest of the month shows (---).

I then go into update the rain totals. There are two ways I've tried this

(1) by clicking on the Edit rain totals tab. In that screen I have maintained the monthly total ok. For the daily total, I load up the relevant month, then for each day in the month I enter in the new value and click correct. When finished I click on Ok all the way out and then convert the logs to data files from the action menu. I then close and restart WD. When I look back at the detailed rain data chart as per above, I get the same (ie 2 values for the month of Feb

(2) I follow the same process as above in (1) but this time I use Action - view and modify log files / rain totals. Make a change in each of the day input fields and click "use corrected amount" after each change. When I go back to view the detailed rain data I get the same result (ie no update has occured)

Also under detailed rain data I'd like to change the number of rain days for the month - I haven't figured out how that gets done.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix the above?

Cheers, Andrew

does data show for the month for each day under view, averages/extremes?

as you should have at least a 0 instead of ----
does the logfile for February have all the data showing?

Hi

Under av/ Extremes day 1 and 2 show, but nothing after that.

The Feb log file shows Rain min, and Rain day as 0. Rain month and Rain year show incorrect figures from Day 5 onwards. I have been concentrating on getting the monthly, then daily figures right.

I've also tried the above procedure, but not running the "convert log files to data files" function, with no luck

The data did show originally although it was incorrect, prior to me trying to tidy it up, but for some reason this one hasn't gone as planned

January's rainfall figures were also out but I seem to have been able to correct them (at least for the month and day). But that said I haven't yet found the reason why they were out.

this is the underlying problem
you wont be able to get any daily rain totals to show up if there is no actual data for those days

do you have a back up of your your logfiles?

if your Feb logfile is all there
then convert that logfile to data file
via action, convert WD logfiles to data files

Thanks Brian for your help. I'm kinda getting there

I restored from a backup, and ran the convert to bring the data back in. It now shows okay for the whole month (except the wrong figures), except for day 28 where it still shows (---). I can live with that, but it seems odd

So I went and corrected the figures that needed correcting and I've done that, but found that if I ran the convert function after that it resets the whole month back to (---).

There is one figure - day 4 that shows as 126mm under  view - rain chart -  Detailed Rain data

If I again try and edit the rain totals under  Action - view and modify log files / rain totals, it pulls through the data and that day shows as 0.0 (which is correct)

If I try and edit the data under Action - view and modify log files / rain totals, or  by clicking on the Edit rain totals tab under view, I can't reset this day back to 0.0

So right now it's not too bad, but not perfect.

Also, if I ran the "Convert the log file to Graph file" function and selected the "Convert all log files found with the year to date option", is it likely to wipe out Jan and Feb again (I'm too scared to try  :D )

Cheers

the edit rain totals only updates the data file
and not the logfile

you can convert a data file to logfile (back up first)

the missing last day problem:
.zip and email me your logfile and I will check/test here

To a point I can live with anyway. There's probably only value in me sending you the log file if you think it's going to pick up a bug or something, but I doubt that it's a code error - more likely something I've done. Let me know if you still want it.

Besides you sound like you have been dealing with a few bugs yourself. Hope you are feeling a bit better :), and a big thanks for your help

Hi
Looks like a similar thing has happened to March. I don't really want to have to go through all this process each month.  Basically under view - rain chart Detailed Rain data it now shows (---) for every day except the last day.

I see the odd figures that came through in Feb have populated into my extremes as well

Are you still okay if I send you the logfile to look at? Is there anything else you want to see?
