Fire Weather Warnings are in place about many parts of Australia.  Parts of WA, SA, QLD, VIC and NSW all have fire weather warnings in place.

In New South Wales, the Fire Weather Warning includes the Greater Hunter and Sydney regions as well as Illawarra/Shoalhaven, Monaro Alpine, Southern Ranges, Central Ranges, Lower Central West Plains, Southern Slopes and Eastern Riverina.

According to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, the most extreme danger can will be found about Monaro Alpine and Southern Ranges.  The NSW Rural Fire Service warns that any bush fire that starts has the potential to cause loss of life and destroy many homes.

The Australian Capital Territory is also under an extreme fire danger today.

The fire danger for the Greater Hunter and Sydney regions is listed as “Severe”.  The NSW Rural Fire Service warns that any brush fire that starts in this area has the potential to threaten lives and destroy homes.

Extremely hot and dry weather will continue across much of NSW today.  Highs in Sydney will be close to 40. Temperatures should rise into the upper 40’s for places like Bourke and Tibooburra.

Two boys charged with lighting Aus fire
By: AAP | International News | Saturday January 12 2013 11:18

Two boys have been charged with starting a grass fire on the side of the M5 motorway in Sydney's southwest.

The boys, aged 12 and 17, were arrested after being spotted near the fire off the M5 at Eagle Vale yesterday afternoon.

The 17-year-old has been charged with three counts of causing a fire and being reckless to its spread, while the younger boy has been charged with two counts of the same offence.

The older boy has been refused bail to appear in the Campbelltown Children's Court today.

The younger boy is on bail to front court in February.
