Sweltering temperatures hit the south today as expected. Sunshine with a little high cloud saw temperatures climb as high as the mid thirties.
Dunedin Airport topped the stakes with 34 degrees, Alexandra fried with 33, Timaru sizzled on 32 and Ashburton and Queenstown hit 30 officially.
Hanmer Springs and Culverden further north also cooked as the temperature climbed above 30 degrees.
Invercargill got close to the magical mark with 28 as did many other centres over central and southern areas of the Mainland

Hamilton 26
Wellington 24
Christchurch 25
Dunedin City 26
In some cases temperatures are still at the maximum of the day as the heat remain over southern areas.
