Record snowfall in Montreal
« on: December 29, 2012, 01:13:15 PM »
More than 45 cm (17½ inches), a record amount in one day … and it’s not over.

December 27, 2012 – The storm left snow in Quebec. Lots of snow! Montreal has even recorded a record snowfall of 24 hours, or 45 centimeters (17½ inches).

With road conditions in southern Quebec “extremely poor, “ the Sûreté du Québec and Transport Québec has asked people not to venture on the roads.

Some segments of highways 10, 20, 30 and 40 are closed along with many other roads, and hundreds of accidents have been reported.

A major pileup at least 12 vehicles has paralyzed Highway 20 West at the height of Saint-Hyacinthe and another pileup involving 15 cars on the 40 at St. Cuthbert.

Snow removal has been difficult because of the many abandoned cars on the streets of the city.
