GEMINIDS METEOR SHOWER, December 13/14, 2012.
« on: December 10, 2012, 10:57:51 AM »
Late night December 13 until dawn December 14 the Geminids meteor shower should be visible often producing 50 or more meteors per hour.
The new moon guarantees a dark sky on the peak night of this Geminid shower (mid-evening December 13 until dawn December 14). But  nights on either side of the peak date should be good as well.
The Geminids should be visible by 9 or 10 p.m. The peak may be around 2 a.m. on these nights.

Meteor showers light up California sky
By: AAP | Latest News | Friday October 19 2012 11:06

Streaking fireballs lighting up California skies and stunning stargazers are part of a major meteor shower, and observers say the show is just getting started.
The exploding streaks were especially visible on Wednesday night over the San Francisco Bay area and other parts of northern California, with reports of bright fireballs and loud booms.
Steve Anderson from the National Weather Service says warm temperatures and cloud-free skies are making the bright lights more visible, a phenomenon that should only increase as the weekend approaches and the shower continues.

My earlier post was from an american source, So peak is tonight here in NZ.

GEMINID METEOR SHOW Peaks tonight 14/15 December (NZ TIME)

The shower will peak on the morning of 15 December in New Zealand and observations can be made for a week either side of the peak. At it's height, the Geminids have a hourly rate of about 80 meteors per hour.
The best time to look for Geminids is any time after about 1 or 2 am through until dawn. Gemini will be approaching north. Look for Geminids streaking through the sky in the region of Orion and the area of sky to the right of Orion. Make sure you have a dark sky from northwest to east. Keep glow from city lights to the south of you.
