Current Observation: Another fine and very warm late spring day with hardly a cloud in the sky for most of it. Stonger breezes today predominantly from the West unlike the last few days which have been light and between North and East during the day and SW or Calm at Night. The cloud has built up during this afternoon and evening so no stars out tonight again.

A mild to warm day is expected over much of the country as an anticyclone starts to lose its battle against an incoming frontal system this weekend.
 
Upper North Island
Mostly sunny however a few cloudy areas are possible. generally light winds but afternoon sea breezes about the coast.Chance of cloud build ups pruding isolated showers this afternoon.Top temperatures between 18-23 degrees
 
Lower North Island
A dry day for this region and Saturday morning sport should be all go.Mostly sunny skies however northerlies picking up about the West Coast could see some cloudy periods at times.

Upper South Island
Cloud building fuerher along the est coast with the chance of some rain.Dry and warm over northern and eastern areas with northeasterlies along the east Coast but nor' westers starting to build inland.

Lower South Island
Thick high cloud at times with some scattered rain possible.Heavier falls about Fiordland.Northwesterlies fading away.Mild temperatures and warmer about Central and North Otago.

At the risk of being repetitive its looking a similar picture for two thirds of the country today as it was yesterday as a ridge of high pressure gives us another good looking late spring day.

Now those in the south and west of the Mainland might argue that yesterday wasn't all that flash and therefore today isn't set to be a classic and they'd be right!

High cloud over Southland and parts of Otago could deliver a few more splashes but at least it looks to be fairly mild and even warm in sheltered areas.

West Coasters are set to see cloudy areas and drizzly rain could spread as far north as the Glaciers but not particularly heavy.

Cloudy spells could rool in off and on this morning and this evening across a few western and northern districts of the North Island but in the afernoons for reminaing areas it's looking mostly sunny and mild to warm.

There'a chance Cantabs could see some cloud thicken this afternoon but the skies shouldn't contain any moisture and temperatures could lift as high as the low to mid twenties.

"Yesterday the easterly kept a lid on the temperature in Christchurch and yet other cantres across the province managed to top 20 degrees" says weather analyst Richard Green."Today should be a little warmer though as long as the easterly isn't quite so crisp".

Auckland looks set to see a dry, mostly sunny weekend and although a few clouds might puff through from time to time there isn't likely to be anything too sinister.Temperatures should slowly climb during the day and topple the twenty degree mark hopefully.
