Greenland Ice sheet surface melt
-Recent satellite image by NASA shows ice sheets melted from 40% to 97% in just four days.
-This disaster is believed to be caused by an unusually strong ridge of warm air, or a heat dome, over Greenland from recent days.

Tornado in Elmira, New York
-Tornado in Elmira damaged buildings and hospitals.
-State of emergency declared in Chemung County.
-More than 20,000 customers are without power in the area.
-Rescue center set up at Elmira Free Academy.

Flooding in New York
-Heavy rain with minor flooding reported in New York (NYC)
-Some power outages in the region, especially down in PA.

Flash floods in West Sumatra of Indonesia
-Eight people killed in Flash floods in West Sumatra of Indonesia. More than 250 people left their home.
-A state of flood emergency declared by the Padang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
-Floods caused widesprad damage across Sumatra with worst hit areas as Limau Manis, Batu Busuk, Kampung Koto, Cengkeh, Padang Besi, Kalumbuk and Tunggul Hitam.
-Heavy rains caused the river in Padang city to overflow. Floods destroyed over 90 houses, 11 mosques, five bridges and one health clinic.
-Indonesia suffers hugely from natural disasters every year.

Wildfire in Southern Bulgaria
-Large wildfire in Southern Bulgaria burned some 300 acres. It is currently burning in Stara Zagora, Haskovo and Yambol regions.
-However no major damage or injury reported.

Wildfire in southwestern Oklahoma
-Wildfire has burned more than 10,000 acres in southwestern Oklahoma.
-More than 200 firefighters are struggling to control the blaez which is burning near Cooperton in Kiowa County. Cooperton is located 115 miles southwest of Oklahoma City

Japan/Sakurajima recent volcanic activity
-Volcanic ashes spewed by Sakurajima volcano of Southern Japan.
-Ashes were scattered to nearby Kagoshima City. The volcano warning is at level three out of a possible five levels.
-Sakurajima volcano has erupted more than 600 times this year.

Beijing Floods
-Death toll from Beijing floods has risen to 77.
-This is heaviest rainstorm in Beijing in six decades.


Flooding in Italy
-Galllipoli and Brindisi mainly affected by floods in Italy.
-Hospital in Brindisi closed due to flood waters.
-Heavy storms reported in Lecce in southern Italy. Lighting struck the Lecce television station Telerama.
-More than 70mm rainfall recorded in the town of Genzano, south of the Castelli Romani in just one hour!

Flooding in Valenzuela, Philippines
-Several schools in Valenzuela City remained suspended today (Thursday) due to recent flash floods.
-New low pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring heavy rainfall in southwest Philippines.

Tropical cyclone in Philippines
-New low pressure area (LPA) is expected to strengthen to a tropical cyclone by Friday afternoon.
-LPA (Gener) was estimated at 430 km east of Hinatuan City in Surigao. Another LPA estimated at 220 km northeast of Basco in Batanes.
-Flash floods and landslides warning issued for Visayas and Mindanao area.

Flooding in Gambia, West Africa
- A woman died in floods in Farafenni, North Bank Region of Gambia.
-Torrential rainfall from several days caused flash flood in the area.
-Gambia is the smallest country on mainland Africa.

Devastating floods in Jos, Nigeria
-At least 35 people reported to be killed in recent floods in Jos, a city in the Middle Belt of Nigeria. Still 50 people are reported to be missing.
-Floods destroyed more than 200 homes. Several houses in Tudun Talakawa, Tudun Osi, Gadar Yan Tukwane in Rikkos area, as well as Anguwan Rogo and some parts of Gangare in Jos were damaged.
-Two camps have been opened for flood victims in Gangare Primary School and Islamiyya Secondary School.
-Six students were killed in floods in Lagos, Nigeria some days ago.
-Massive flooding in Nigeria in 2010 made more than 111,000 people homeless.

Tropical Storm Vincente
-Strong winds and rain caused by Tropical Storm Vincente killed two fisherman in Cambodia.
-Out of seven people, four others were rescued from the boat in Pursat province, northwest of the capital, Phnom Penh.
-Strong winds damaged around 500 houses and destroyed about 13,600 hectares of crops.

Lightning in Toronto, Canada
-Lightning destroyed at least five houses on Spadina Road in Brampton. The fire caused $1 million in damages.
-No injury reported but 18 people became homeless.

Huge wave in Goa, India
-Huge wave about 200m from the shore of Benaulim, Goa hit a boat carrying 12 crew members.
-Two people reported to be injured. They were rescued immediately.

Drought in Missouri, United States
-A state of drought emergency declared in Missouri. About 25 people died in the state following the recent droughts and heat wave.
-June 2012 was the globe's 4th warmest June on record.

Wildfire in Spain
-Three killed and about 100 injured in wildfire in northeastern Spain.
-Fire that broke out near the town of La Jonquera just across the border with France has spread about 17,000 acres.
-About 80 firefighting brigades from Spain and France fought the wildfire.
-Death toll from Spain wildfire has risen to 4.
-The fire is burning close to the border with France and includes the Costa Brava which is one of the most popular beach destinations in Spain.

Update:

Tornado in Bohol, Philippines:
-At least 85 houses destroyed by Tornado in Jagna, Bohol region of Philippines with worst hit in Barangay Can-upao. 
-Storms damaged 13 pumpboats on the coastal region. Damage of  P1.3 million expected. Recently formed Tropical Depression Gener is forecast to bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Ongoing Major Flash Floods:
-Afghanistan (River Amu Darya), Australia (River Darling), Botswana (Selinda) , Brazil (River Tocantins), China (River Mekong and River Huang), Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Nicaragua (River San Juan), Nigeria (Benue), Pakistan (River Indus), Philippines, Sudan (River Blue Nile), Tanzania (River White Nile) and United States (River Rio Grande).

Flash floods in Xinjiang, China
-Train services of the Turpan-Korla section suspended due to recent floods in Southern Xinjiang.
-More than 300 rescuers moved the passengers to the safer place.

Flash floods in North Korea
-Death toll due to flooding in North Korea has risen to 88.
-More than 63,000 people reported to be homeless due to floods which was caused by torrential rains and a typhoon.

Wildfires in Tooele County, Utah
-About 150 acres burned by wildfire in Cedar Mountains in Tooele County.
-Lightning caused small fire in Grassy and Lake Mountain too.
-Another wildfire is burning between Fillmore and Holden.

Wildfire in Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge
-Wildfire in Bayou Sauvage has burned 50-acres.
-Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge, the largest urban wildlife refuge in the United States,  is a 23,000-acre region located within the city limits of New Orleans.

Erupting Volcanoes:
Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Semeru, Kizimen, Nyiragongo,  Etna, Karymsky, Erta Alae, Dukona, Fuego, Puyehue-Cordón Caulle and Tungurahua Volcano.

Thanks for that Jenny - so easy to read like that rather than individual articles on each disaster.
More things going on round the world than I thought/
