Telecom has another issue with email delivery, but its different to last week's, says spokespersonDelays to emails have hit Telecom Xtra and Officemail users again – but it’s not a recurrence of the Sorbs spam blacklisting problem that caused mails to take as long as 48 hours to deliver a week ago.
This time, a different “technical issue” was to blame, says Telecom social-media manager Richard Irvine, but he declines to give further details.
After Telecom worked on the latest problem with its outsourced email provider, Yahoo! “we believe the issue has been resolved,” Irvine says. However, a lot of email is backed up and customers may still experience delays for a day or two, he said on Wednesday afternoon.
Telecom’s email service was outsourced to the Australian operation of Yahoo! in 2007 – a move widely criticized at the time.
“Xtra (Yahoo!) customers can check their email settings are set to send.xtra.co.nz rather than smtp.xtra.co.nz, which can help with outgoing mail issues,” Irvine says “There's information on our website on how to do this.”
