WINTER STORM EXPECTED OVER THE SOUTH ISLAND. WARNINGS HAVE BEEN ISSUED.

Northland to Manawatu, also Bay of Plenty and the central high country
Cloudy with isolated showers developing in the west and south, mainly fine elsewhere.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay
Fine, with high cloud.

Horowhenua to Wellington, also Wairarapa and Marlborough
Mostly cloudy, with a few showers turning to rain tonight.

Nelson and Buller
Showers in Buller, turning to rain and spreading to Nelson this evening, with some heavy falls.

Westland and Fiordland
Rain with heavy falls spreading north this morning, easing to a few showers in southern Fiordland by midday. Snow lowering to 200 metres in Fiordland.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Rain spreading from the south this morning, and turning to heavy snow down to low levels. Northwest gales turning cold southerly this morning.
