A hail storm hit Taihape on Thursday afternoon, reverting the town to mid-winter conditions. FRANCES MCKEOWN/SUPPLIEDTaihape residents have been treated to their very own white Christmas.
An "unusual" cold snap on Thursday brought a dump of hail to the central North Island town as temperatures plummeted to 9 degrees Celsius.
Resident Frances McKeown said the storm pelted the town's central business district shortly after 1.30pm for about 10 minutes.
The storm caused temperatures to plummet. FRANCES MCKEOWN/SUPPLIEDThose looking to craft a Christmas snowman were left disappointed when a heavy belt of rain followed shortly after, quickly dissolving the thin blanket of hail.
"It's still on people's window screens and cars, but it's mostly all gone."
According to Metservice, the town expected some heavy showers, with isolated thunderstorms.
