Wanganui's Sarjeant Gallery and Opera House are among buildings now found to be at risk from an earthquake.

District Council chief executive Kevin Ross says a number of council-owned buildings have been assessed as at risk under the Building Act.

He says notices will be put up in easily visible places in the art gallery, opera house, regional museum, Cooks Gardens stand and War Memorial Hall.

Mr Ross says the council will be looking at options during next month's meeting for the future of the buildings.
