Setting Up Web Page
« on: October 11, 2012, 11:05:53 PM »
First question from a newbie!

I have just set up a WS2083 and have been trying to get in live on one of my websites via Cumulus.

I keep getting the following FTP Errors:-

FTP Connect Error. Error Code 11002
FTP Connect Error, Error Code 426

I've attached Screenshots of the Cumulus Config screens.

Hope someone can help

So go read / ask on the Cumulus forum ... they're a helpful lot  ;)
Imagine what you will KNOW tomorrow

...as we are here too!

I'm not a Cumulus user so this is pretty much a guess. And what I'm guessing is that I don't think your issue has anything to do with cumulus as such. It's just a plain old authentication error.

So check the following:
(a) that your hostname is correct, and the the DNS name for the host has propogated properly (ie if it's new it will take up to 48 hours to propogate. in the meantime you can use the ip address ). The website "www.jirahhealth.com" looks okay so this step looks ok
(b) Check that you directory name is correct. For instance on WD my directory names start with /public_html but this will be unique to the machine you are hosting from. key thing is that it should show the directory path as it is on the hosting account. You might need to contact the host to find out what it might be. The name you give in your screenshots looks suspicious to me
(c) Check that the username is correct - this might be somethig like jirahhea@jirahealth.com rather than what you have
(d) finally check the password is correct. It probably is, but if the above doesn't work then reset the password

Let us know how you get on or if you have problems. There are plenty of cumulus users here so someone will be able to help!
Cheers, Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I have been in contact with my webhost WebhostingPad.com and that is how they told me to enter it.

The user name is correct, I have two sites hosted with them and that is the root user name.

I might try them again and send the screen shots.

Will keep plugging away

The directory path still looks dodgy to me.

Unless you have a directory called "swansonweather.themcbrides.info" hanging off the directory that you ftp into then it's unlikely to work.

Certainly I can't find one if I go to http://www.jirahealth.com/swansonweather.themcbrides.info/

Normally /'s are used instead of .'s as directory seperators in a unix environment (aside from the . and .. used to navigate between directories in scripts)

According to wikipedia the only OS that use .'s are Openvms (mainframe) and RISC-OS - which I used to use years ago in a desktop environment

So that's where I'd be double checking ;-)

Good day,

I am Cumulus and hopefully can help.
As Gabba said this url is a dead end at present:
http://www.swansonweather.themcbrides.info

In the above screenshot. The directory path.
Try putting the forward slash first
/swansonweather.themcbrides.info

Did they give you 22 for the port.
Could try 21 also.
Do this and let me know and we will go onto the next idea :)
Cheers

Thanks for all the suggestions people.

Yes, port 22 is what the webhost told me to use. Still not happening. I'm about to flick another update to the helpdesk with the screenshots. Will see what they have to say.

Have tried the other things suggested here as well, no go so far.

We'll get there!

Also you may need to close off Cumulus and start her again after any changes to make changes take :)

Yes they are but they can also be fairly abrupt and make one feel like an idiot.
Hence I do not ask questions over there as do not wish to make a fool of myself.
All forums are a bit like this. The smart people at the top sometimes forget we all started at the bottom :)

OK - forget Cumulus updates for the moment.

Where (web address) do you think you have uploaded the necessary Cumulus 'base' files. ?

How did you get them there and what 'address' did you use ?

Can you see any of those files ?

Have just heard back from the webhost

Quote
It appears that software doesn't support an encrypted ftp connection

So might have to look at hosting it elsewhere and link to the site  :(

Yes, they are all where they are supposed to be. Looks like it's a probelm between my host and the cumulus software

Did you also try putting your full email address in as they state on their support page for ftp?
username = user@domain.com
password = password you have given
port = 21

Host won't do plain FTP so port 21 is out. Port 22 is recommended for sftp, so it would be a matter of confirming with cumulus if they support sftp as a protocol.

if you need an account to try out ftp I can help you out, just PM me. It would need to be tonight though as I have work stuff to do from 9pm to about 5am Sat night - so at least some of Sat and All of sun will be a write off for me. (well I will be making less sense than normal!)

Thanks, that would be why they said port 22 in the first place, makes sense now. Will drop a note to cumulus tonight as just about to take a bored 6 yr old to the zoo.

Can relate to your work situation, am a shift worker myself, work 4 on 4 off, 12 hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights) so know the feeling!
