Weather Display ‘Current Conditions’ Icon Help Please.
« on: February 06, 2014, 04:22:43 PM »
After spending the last few days going around in circles trying to sort this out, we have given up.

Our member is using the Saratoga Template reading the clientraw.txt and using testtags.
The web site template is functioning as it should be with data values correct except the ‘Current Conditions Icon’ which remains the same 24/7 – a blue sky with the sun shining. This is also the case through the night.

The Latitude, longitude, sun rise, sun set, moon phase are all correct. In general the txt conditions are correct; it is just the conditions icon that is not.

This conditions icon is also incorrect on Weather Display frontend on his Computer.  Hence I believe the problem lies with the Weather Display settings. But where,  is the question???

Any help to correct this would be much appreciated by our member.
This is his website:

Correct, no solar sensor. But if need be this could be turned on and set to read the metar conditions.

Do you think this would sort it?

I suppose you've played around with the settings in the "Universal Main screen icon settings" screen? (Summary images)

If it were me, I'd back up all my data, do a complete delete of WD and do a fresh install and see if I got the same result. (but maybe you've already done that).

Never struck the same problem in all the years I've been using WD. Have you tried PM'ing Brian?

cheers

Hi Tony and thanks for help.
Am I in the right place:
Units & settings
Weather Icon Setup.

By the default 'Show the icon on the Main Screen' is ticked ( I will check member has also )

Under Metar should he try ticking 1,2, & 4 maybe?

Annoying Mr Weather Display is my last plan of attack :)

We have also searched through the wxforum but did not find anything we had not tried.

Cheers

Have you also checked Control Panel - Summary Image and Icons... I do not have the screen shot here at work but there are some settings in there as well.

Ok we have tried 'a lot of reading', 'changing' and 'unchanging' to no avail.

I will climb higher up on the ladder :)

the best thing is to .zip and email me the settings files
(there is a FAQ on the WD forum for how to do that)

We picked up that his site was using an older version of the testtags file.
Our member has upgraded to the latest version and this seems to have done the trick.

The test will be tonight as to whether the conditions icon is reading the correct number sent by WD and we have a black icon and not the bright blue icon we have had for the last week.

Thanks Brian. If this does not work I will send the setting files.

Cheers

Looks like Brian has solved our problem. (Fingers crossed) Brain's reply below.

Hi
I see you have set to use a downloaded metar to update the conditions...but the metar selected to use is not the same as the one in the metar download list
also , where do you live exactly in NZ?
as its only auckland, wellington and christchurch airport metars that update regularly (e.g hourly),....unless you live close to those, then there is no point in using the metar conditons to update the icon

I have attached screen shot of the settings you should turn off/change

I was thinking the unchecking of "Use Downloaded Metar to update the icon"

that will be it...smaller aiports like New Plymouth do not update the metar very often

the USA has many more metar reports and they are often updated more often than every 1 hour even (some every 30 or 10 minutes)
so a good source for sky conditions reports (which are often done via auto lazer sky cloud sensors or similar)
