Texas earliest snowfall ever recorded - 7 inches in the Panhandle
« Reply #40 on: November 16, 2018, 08:38:51 AM »
Houston reported its earliest snowfall ever, beating places like New York City and Boston as a cold snap descended over Texas.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston set a new record for the first observed snowfall, breaking one set on Nov. 23, 1979, according to a Twitter post from the National Weather Service. Near record-breaking cold has swept into the South, with temperatures in the state 25 degrees Fahrenheit (14 Celsius) or more below average, according to the U.S. Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.

New York City shatters 112-year-old snowfall record
« Reply #41 on: November 18, 2018, 08:27:08 AM »
Killer storm dumps six times more snowfall on Central Park than previous record.

16 Nov 2018 – The 6.4 inches (16.3 cm) of snow that fell on New York City (Central Park) yesterday eviscerated the previous record of one inch set on Nov 15, 1906.

To put this in perspective, keep in mind that average snowfall in Central Park for the entire month of December is only 4.8 inches. Also keep in mind that we’re still only halfway through November.

Other notable snowfall amounts:

Newton, PA –       12.3″ (30 cm+)
Worcester, MA –   8.2″ (22 cm +)
Nashua, NH –       6.8″  (15 cm +)
Mt Hope, NH –   18.3″  (45 cm +)
In addition to being responsible for at least 11 deaths and leaving hundreds of thousands without power, the snow caused chaos in several states including New Jersey, where students were forced to stay in school overnight, in Pennsylvania, where motorists were trapped in their cars for more than 12 hours

“One of the largest November storms on record dumped as much as 13 inches (33 cm) of snow on the Chicago area Sunday into Monday,” says the Chicago Tribune.

The storm, which all by itself made this the sixth-snowiest November in Chicago history, jammed the morning commute.

It forced the cancellation of more than 1,200 flights.

It shut hundreds of schools.

And it knocked out power to more than 340,000 homes and businesses.

Below freezing in all 50 states USA.
« Reply #44 on: December 05, 2018, 05:37:18 PM »
Cold from coast-to-coast, with temperatures running some 10 to 20 degrees below average for much of the week, according to msn.com.

Then, a weekend storm “is expected to bring a widespread wintry mess of snow, sleet and freezing rain through parts of the nation’s southern tier and possibly the East Coast,” the Weather Channel warns.

What the storm does after that is still up in the air.

2018 will officially go down as D.C.’s wettest calendar year on record.
« Reply #48 on: December 19, 2018, 05:31:01 PM »
WASHINGTON — 2018 will officially go down as D.C.’s wettest calendar year on record.

The National Weather Service (NWS) announced that Reagan Airport’s total observed rainfall for the year had reached 61.34 inches at exactly 6:26 a.m. on Saturday, shattering D.C.’s old record of 61.33 inch.

The rain, meanwhile, keeps coming. The end of the previous record’s 129-year streak comes during an ongoing, late autumn rainstorm, expected to dump around 2 inches of rain in the capital region before moving out on Sunday.

Flood watches were in effect for the entire WTOP listening area, with a possibility of high standing water in roadways and flooding along small creeks throughout the weekend.

“We’re over 61 inches of rain for this year, and we’re tacking on maybe another inch or two as we head through this weekend,” NBC Washington meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts said. “Rain will continue not only today, but also through the day tomorrow. It could be heavy at times, it could be light at times, but again, we’re gonna have a rainy and soggy weekend.”

Massachusetts under flood watch as heavy rain, strong winds move in
« Reply #50 on: December 22, 2018, 10:40:41 PM »
BOSTON (WHDH) - The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all of southern New England that lasts until Friday night.

The watch comes as meteorologists are predicting heavy rains as a possibly historic warm front moves into the region. Cape Cod and parts of southeastern Massachusetts are under a coastal flood advisory.
