More than 110 flood alerts issued with roads submerged and rivers overflowing
Dozens of flood warnings are in place across England as the country deals with the aftermath of heavy rain. Rivers are expected to burst their banks, while many low-lying roads will also be submerged. Even though the heavy rain has stopped in most areas, the water levels are still high. There are 86 flood warnings currently in place, where people are told they need to take action to remain safe.

CENTRAL ENGLAND EXPERIENCES HISTORICALLY CHILLY OCTOBER
« Reply #63 on: November 04, 2019, 09:11:39 PM »
The UK’s October 2019 sure felt like a chilly one, but now official Met Office temperature data has confirmed it — Central England just experienced a month on par with those of the mid-to-late 1600s.

The Central England Temperature (CET) record measures the monthly mean surface air temperatures for the Midlands region of England, and is the longest series of monthly temperature observations in existence, anywhere in the world.

Its mean reading for October 2019 came in at a nice round 10C — that’s 0.7C below the already cool 1961-1990 average (the current standard period of reference for climatological data used by the WMO).

In the 360 years of CET data, there have only ever been 9 other years with an October average temperature of 10C — these are 1659, 1660, 1663, 1668, 1669, 1670, 1672, 1679, and 1722.

The deficit for England was 0.4C. Met office report:

The screaming headlines from Electroverse are not justified.

The explanation is that the CET is used here, but the number I was quoting was for the whole of England.

https://electroverse.net/heavy-early-season-snow-forecast-to-bury-the-uk-this-weekend/

Late-October threatened it, early/mid-November looks set to deliver it. The Global Forecast System (GFS) is confident of a potentially historic bout of early-season snow battering the UK this weekend.

Latest GFS runs appear to be doubling-down on the next and potentially historic bout of biting Arctic air — on course to hit Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England (even southern England) this weekend.

According to the models, we’re now just 54hrs out.

Low-temperature records are under threat, with the mercury set to sink well below freezing across the majority of the home nations:

An 'Arctic' swell plunges temperatures in the UK 18th November 2019
« Reply #70 on: November 18, 2019, 12:53:49 PM »
The 400-mile wide swell will bring the mercury down -9C on Monday night - marking the earliest winter snow for 11 years in some places, weather forecast have said.
On Tuesday, two inches of rain will fall this week starting in the West and other parts including Yorks., which were hit by floods on Thursday.

Britain will be colder than Helsinki this week as a blast of polar air could bring the coldest autumn night this year for England and Scotland.

The Met office warned temperatures could drop to -8.1C in the Highlands on Monday night.

In the North, temperatures are set to drop to -6C and parts of the South are bracing for -3C.

The North faces snow flurries on higher ground, which would make it England's earliest winter snow for 11 years.

Most days will struggle to hit double-digits this in the North this week as the South will see temperatures go from 10C to 12C.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “Slow-moving rain returns to the West on Tuesday and to Yorkshire and other parts from Thursday for the rest of the week, with bands of rain.

“It's cold in the northerly flow. Monday night could be the coldest night of autumn in Scotland and England, exceeding -8.1C in Scotland and down to -6C in northern England.

“Snow showers could be seen on higher ground of Scotland, with a bit of snow over northern England.

“Daytime maximums will be 7-9C for most to start the week, easing to 12C in the South from midweek as the flow turns southerly, but still only 7-10C in the North.

Tornado in Surrey brings down trees and flips over cars

Surrey has been hit by a tornado so severe the fire service had to be called out. Photographs from the scene show the damage, with vehicles flipped over, trees torn down and strewn across gardens, and a trampoline slammed on its side against a house. Severe weather swept across southern England yesterday, disrupting Christmas travel plans for many. Surrey Fire and Rescue received reports of a tornado in Chertsey shortly before 10.30am. The service said in a statement: ‘We were called to a high wind incident affecting a number of houses in the Chertsey area.’
