African Plume could bring hottest July day EVER on Thursday with 98F re
« Reply #43 on: July 23, 2019, 05:44:45 PM »
A heatwave set to hit Britain this week could beat the all-time temperature record for July, forecasters say. Warm sunshine is predicted for much of England and Wales from today, with the mercury hitting 84F (29C) in south eastern areas. Further north, where rain is due to clear this morning, it could reach 79F (26C). By Wednesday the warmest areas of southern Britain could reach 95F (35C) - and it could get even hotter still, raising fears of health problems for the elderly. Even in the far north of England, temperatures could still hit the 80Fs (high 20Cs). The hot weather is being brought north from a plume of Saharan air which is already hitting parts of southern Europe.

Thunderstorm brings tree crashing down in Hove Edge garden

A Hove Edge family woke this morning to find a thunderstorm had brought a tree down, smashing their garden fence.
Terri-Marie Tyler, of Catherine Slack, said the tree fell on top of a 10 ft-high climbing frame and crashed into the fence.

"If it had come down on the other side, it would have come straight through the window of our house," she said.

https://www.sott.net/article/417470-Rare-heat-burst-causes-temperature-in-Lincolnshire-UK-to-soar-by-TEN-degrees-in-less-than-an-hour

The Met Office says the event is highly unusual

Parts of Lincolnshire experienced a ten degree temperature rise in under one hour last night due to a rare atmospheric phenomenon.

The Met Office has said that the so-called 'heat burst' was caused by a thunderstorm collapsing and bringing hot air down to ground level.

This caused the temperature recorded by the Met Office at Donna Nook to increase a staggering 10 degrees in just 38 minutes, jumping from 22C at 8.22pm to 32C just before 9pm.

A spokesperson for the Met Office told Lincolnshire Live: "While heat bursts are not unknown globally, to get that temperature rise so suddenly is much more common in countries with more turbulent weather.

"It doesn't happen very often at all full stop, honestly.

"This sort of weather behaviour is usually seen in regions such as mid-west United States prior to a hurricane or extremely stormy weather."

Residents of Whaley Bridge are bracing themselves for storms that could bring half a month’s rain in just hours, and jeopardise attempts to secure the dam looming over the Derbyshire town.

Around 150 firefighters have been pumping water out of the 300-million gallon Toddbrook Reservoir to try to alleviate the pressure

And for contrast- Fort Regent in Jersey logged its higher ever monthly sunshine in July - 374 hours. Would have been a good tanning month.

Hull weather: Heatwave set to return for Bank Holiday weekend
Another heatwave is on its way and what better timing for it to arrive than a Bank Holiday weekend?

The scorching temperatures will be more than welcomed by residents of Hull and East Yorkshire bored with the stormy and damper weather we have seen over the past three weeks.

As Birmingham basks in the sun along with the rest of the UK there's an end in sight and it's not very pleasant.

Bank Holiday weekend has seen the mercury rise to just short of 30C for Brummies but that's all about to change as heavy rain and thunderstorms bring the heatwave to an end.

Clean-up begins as Storm Lorenzo brings flooding chaos across Ireland
Storm Lorenzo has raged through Ireland, bringing with it plenty of rain and gale force winds.

While most of the country got off lightly as it wasn’t as strong as predicted, some were without power and have experienced damage to their homes.

One woman has told of the devastation caused by flooding and has left everything “a total mess”.

Met Office warnings as Brits brace for 5-day thunder and gale 'washing machine' - Daily Star

Met Office warnings as Brits brace for 5-day thunder and gale 'washing machine'
Brits have been told to prepare for a weather “washing machine” as they are set to be hit with five days of wind, rain, hail and thunder.

Flood alerts are predicted with torrential downpours coming down on already saturated ground.

Forecasters say that a massive low-pressure system that is anchored to the north of the UK will blast the country with heavy rain and gales over the coming days.

Gloomily there is “no sign of an end” to the dire weather.

It has been a wet week in Bristol and it looks set to continue today with bursts of heavy rain predicted throughout the morning and afternoon.

And although the rain should clear by the evening, it looks set to be a temporary relief as Bristol - and the rest of the UK - is set for two weeks of heavy rain.

Thanks Martin - I have a friend from Dursely, Cam due out here on 30th October, he will be thankful for our warmer spring weather!!  He has a summer house 1km from me and I push my mower over and mow his lawns once a week!  I mow a strip each way through the park between us - for the early morning dog walkers doing the block!
